Heat becomes an issue as you age, you need the juice to handle the AC draw on the hottest days.

In the Baton Rouge area, call Central Outdoor Power, owned by Austin Meyer. In 2022, my 20 Kw Kohler whole house unit was $13,000. FWIW, I have gas heat, hot water, and a gas stove/oven, so 20 Kw is more than enough for the A/C and the rest of my house.

I have researching this myself.
Generac is 75% of the market and has the most available parts.
The other best three choices is Kohler, Briggs & Stratton and Cummins.
My research has led me to Cummins. Very quiet and proven motor. I will be getting one installed this winter.

You may want to do some research about how many homes in your neighborhood have generators, the last time we had a storm there were a lot of natural gas generators that failed because there was so many generators in the neighborhood consuming the available natural gas.
Propane is the way to go.

After the 2009 Southeast Missouri ice storm I spent 10 days without power and the temperature never rose above freezing. I weathered it with gas logs, a Smith and Wesson .357 magnum, bottle of Jack, and Honda portable generator. I was as happy as a clam.

Sounds like you were under 40 at the time
My people did not have running water or electricity and they survived.

I can tell you that I reached out twice to GenPro, HMC, and Steadfast. No one ever returned my online inquiry or phone call.
The only company that called and followed up was Gage. I ended up not using them as my builder has someone he wants me to use.
