Not a jock but a pretty decent athlete, an illustrator and artist, protector of the nerds and picked on kids, painfully shy, and incredibly naive. I ran with friends at all levels of popularity. Had a small group of friends, both guys and gals in two separate groups.

A nerd trying desperately to be a jock.

I was pretty shy, awkward and reserved. I really regret looking back that i didn’t make an effort to deal with that social anxiety, because I think some of my classmates mistook it for me just being a rude unfriendly person.

I loved academics and was in all APs and I guess i fit some definitions of a nerd, but i also loved watching sports and doing outdoor stuff.

I was just kind of there. Had a small group of friends. Most people simply knew me as my sister’s twin.

I was really really bad at being a social person.

I honestly wasn’t in a clique in high school. I was just regular old me. For the most part, I pretty much got along with most everyone, regardless of their circles, all except the super popular who had their noses in the air and I wasn’t chasing that dream, so I guess I didn’t really fit in with them. Other than them though, I guess I was just a kid for all seasons.

I was just on the outside of the popular/jock group. I knew all of them, they knew me. But I wasn’t popular and didn’t go to many parties or dances.

I was a bit of a floater. I could hang with the preppies if I wanted but ate lunch with the nerds/geeks. What's the difference between nerd and geek now? In 9th grade I wore baggy cargo pants and dumb graphic t-shirts and played hacky sack and by 10th grade I was wearing polo shirts most days. I also quit band after the 9th grade because I didn't think it was 'cool' anymore. Or would make me 'cool' rather.

I would argue with anyone and everyone about anything back then. Now I purposely steer away from confrontation in general. It’s weird how people change as they get older.

I was awkward as hell with my small group of close friends. Got along with everyone but was friends with only a few. Had a couple girlfriends from other schools but none from my own school.

I still am, but the weird thing was everyone in high school thought I was a social butterfly because I could bounce around from group to group with little effort. One example was our lunchroom. Everyone pretty much sat in the same place every day for lunch. Nerds at one table, jocks at one, popular kids at one, and so on. I usually sat at a different table every day. The popular kids never really embraced me at their table, but all the other groups did. But on the inside, I was a basketcase of low self esteem and feelings on not belonging, and the sitting at different tables was a weird defense mechanism.

Most of my stuff was pen/ink drawing, color pencil, and acrylic painting. All realistic. I rarely stepped outside of those boundaries and used different mediums. I was an art major in college for a hot minute before it literally destroyed any love I had for drawing permanently :(
