The first vehicle I drove was one of these. It was not in this good of shape and really wasn't street legal, though I got it on the road a couple of times for short distances. It was basically being used as a mechanized wheel barrow. It was fun though.

Mine was the 87, still my favorite car of all of them I've had. Wrecked by a drunken idiot (heh - not me).

My first car was a 1989 BMW 325i. It was as old as me and a fun little car to drive.

My dad used to love picking up old Beemers, especially E30s, at one point we had four of them. It started with a ‘76 2002 that was my oldest sister’s first car. I moved up to an E34 5 series my senior year of high school.

Dad drove a new BMW that ended up needed some major maintenance right after the warranty expired. He was pissed and wrote the brand off forever.

‘74 VW bug

My kids are currently in high school and may be the only ones of their friends that know how.

2 of theirs friends have vw GTI and it amazes me they make them in automatic. Can it be called a sporty car without manua?

1978 Dodge Colt
Grandparents house next door had a 200' driveway. Drove back and forth on that driveway learning the feel of the clutch.

I taught myself in my step brother’s late 1970s Jeep. My parents took him to Tuscaloosa for his freshman year. I seized the opportunity and was grinding gears on a Sunday morning around the SMU campus.

Hold it @ stop sign, on a hill, with a car behind you...
not a problem. Depending on how steep the hill is you can make that foot pedal dance fast enough your vehicle won't even roll backwards an inch.

On a really steep incline that you've unfortunately stopped in the middle of, pull up the e-brake and after you're safely moving in 1st gear , ease it down.

Burned a clutch one time learning that lesson.

Here in TN hill stops are mandatory.

I love Fred Flintstoning manual cars and other stupid tricks like downshifting to come to a stop without using your brakes, skipping a gear, timing your shifts where you don't use the clutch at all...ahhh fun times people who never drove a standard will never learn to appreciate.
