Learned to drive in my older brothers little 84 Toyota pickup with a 4 on the floor. Eventually it became mine. No power steering, but you didn’t really need it in that little truck. As long as the truck was moving just a little bit, you could turn the steering wheel easily enough. A/C worked but I rarely used it back then. I thought it would make a big difference in gas.
I was a dumb teenager.

I learned in an old 70s or 80s Ford. 3 on the column.

That's how I learned. My dad had an MG Midget that he was restoring, and I would just sit in it and practice shifting. My first car was a manual transmission and I loved it. I sometimes miss having to shift gears manually.

In 1962, my grandfather taught me to drive his 1959 pickup truck. I was 12 years old !
I miss those days and him a lot !

I started teaching my son to drive when he was about 12 in an old jeep TJ with a manual transmission. He's 16 now and the only one of his baws that can drive a manual.

'73(?) Ford Courier (for those too young, it was a small truck, actually a Mazda in Ford disguise)

Learned to drive with my parents' cars which were automatic. Dated a girl in college that had a Toyota Corolla with a stick, and she basically taught me how to drive it. Owned a couple of vehicles since that had manual transmissions.

1963 Ford Falcon and my dad also taught me on. 1967 Star Chief Executive that was a huge heavy tank. He wanted me to learn the difference between power brakes and regular brakes.

I taught myself on my Dad's truck when he and my Mom were out before I even had a license. Didn't go far from home but far enough to learn how to do it. Drivers Ed came easy when that time came.

You might be right. Surprised none of the neighbors ratted on me.
