However, I agree 100% with how Sweden handled this thing. They used common sense and trusted their people instead of choosing to live in fear for 2-3 months straight.

Sweden has 2300 or so deaths, the US has around 59,000, the US has 33 times the population of Sweden, adjust for population and Sweden would have 81,000 deaths, give or take a few.

They also have generated immunity fairly quickly, were never overrun, and, unlike the USA, they are apparently trying not to push this back into respiratory/flu season.
Stay at home spreads them out over time so that we don’t overwhelm hospitals.
Unless we lockdown until a vaccine is available, the same number will happen.
The areas under the curve constitutes the same number of people.
We completely disregarded the entire purpose of flattening the curve so that we could push the coronavirus back into flu season and then actually overwhelm hospitals.
Sweden will come out of this whole situation likely in a better position than any country that shutdown like we did.

If Louisiana expected citizens to use common sense and trusts its citizens, we'd have ended up with many more deaths. No one (myself included) took it seriously even when Coach O was doing commercials. Even then, random citizens I'd talk to once I was in lock down mode thought it was a hoax. They didn't take it seriously until JBE started his the virus is racist campaign. The fact that JBE is still governor tells you how stupid LA residents are...and the more educated or those voting in their own self interests are why we have him, not because of his qualifications or leadership over the four prior years.

Also, based on Sweden's nCFR of 12%, they are missing a significant number of current infections.
There are obviously trade offs but Sweden is maybe a decent model for what might be possible moving forward.

This is purely speculation at this point. It may be true, but is entirely too soon to say for certain.
It will definitely be interesting to see the numbers from comparable nations (Denmark, Norway, etc ) after this is all over

Another way to look at it, is that they’re per-capita death totals (244 per million) are nearly 5 times the other 2 Nordic countries combined (51 per million).
In addition, while there are many factors that contribute to this and these are only projections, Sweden is projected to have a larger economic contraction this year (7% GDP decrease) than the United States (about a 6% GDP decrease).

It will be interesting to see. It is helpful to have different countries taking different measures to act as independent laboratories for study. Hopefully something practical can be gleaned and instituted in suitable time.

Hospitals are routinely overrun during respiratory season already.
That is the insanity of quarantining everyone, especially low risk populations.
We are so far behind the eight ball right now, that we likely won’t be able to catch up.
We need people to be out an interacting.
We need controlled spread of this thing in the low risk community.
And we REALLY need to start now.
