The World Health Organization lauded Sweden as a “model” for battling the coronavirus as countries lift lockdowns — after the nation controversially refused restrictions.

Dr. Mike Ryan, the WHO’s top emergencies expert, said Wednesday there are “lessons to be learned” from the Scandinavian nation, which has largely relied on citizens to self-regulate.

“I think there’s a perception out that Sweden has not put in control measures and just has allowed the disease to spread,” Ryan told reporters. “Nothing can be further from the truth.”

Ryan noted that instead of lockdowns, the country has “put in place a very strong public policy around social distancing, around caring and protecting people in long term care facilities.”

And six weeks ago Sweden was going to die a slow and painful death. How things change.

I'm sure the World Health Organization has seen them. They're more qualified to analyze those numbers than you or me.

So the same people that, best case scenario, took China's word that this was no big deal without doing any investigation. Or, more likely, the org that lied for the Chinese govt

Only when it suits me.

In all seriousness, I hope we never fund those bastards again. They're pieces of shite who towed the line for China until it was too late to stop this thing from going global. However, I agree 100% with how Sweden handled this thing. They used common sense and trusted their people instead of choosing to live in fear for 2-3 months straight.

Sweden is likely much healthier, on the median, than almost any other nation on earth.

Usually a clown show doesn't cost billions of dollars a year to run.

This puts the liberal sheep of this board in a mighty fine pickle, doesn’t it?

the ratio of confirmed deaths to confirmed cases. Sweden’s is more than twice as high as Denmark’s and more than five times higher than Norway’s.

Sweden: 10.93%
United States: 5.29%
Denmark: 4.78%
Norway: 2.12%

This is only part of the story, but doesn't paint quite the picture your linked article does

The way I've heard it is that Sweden is trying to reach herd immunity as quickly as possible. So we won't really know which approach is better until the end of all this. Better to go more deaths immediately in pursuit of herd immunity vs more severe shutdown and prolonged initial infection
