Had to pick up someone from the airport yesterday and got a notification that the flight was delayed an hour.

Drove around looking for a spot to chill out for a little while and found this lot.

Had probably close to 100 people with tents and canopies just hanging out all over the place looking like they were tailgating. They definitely weren't homeless people.

Is this a lot of airport workers?

Zoom in, but it’s pretty obvious it’s MSY .

Yes. That's the "cell phone lot." You can pull in there and wait if you are picking someone up, as well. But it's mostly taxis and, I guess, Uber drivers waiting to pick up.

ETA, actually the cell phone lot is the smaller lot sort of to the top right of the thing you circled. I have no idea what that is.

maybe contractors for some construction going on around there? i've never even noticed that lot.

ETA - after looking it up myself and zooming in, it definitely looks like the contractor lot from when they were building the new airport and roads and stuff. probably still a few contractors lurking around for miscellaneous stuff

It was the construction lot for the airport.

Might still be for workers on the north/south runway.

That was where the offices were set up for the Joint Venture when they were constructing the new terminal.

Work is still ongoing at the airport, so I assume the people you saw were contractors and subs.

IIRC they are repaving the north-south runway. Could be that crew

I did a job out there, and that was where all of the construction workers parked. Not sure about the tents, unless they set them up for the guys to work or eat lunch under.

The perfect airport: small and has a CFA > (MSY, Memphis, Pensecola, Jackson, MS). Larger airports are ridiculous.

Agree. I fly into Pensacola often and it's pretty easy.

However, the amount of cars parked their in "short term parking" seems to double every few months over the last few years. Used to be easy to park pretty close.

Now, there are more cars filling the all their short term parking lots than the amount of people who fly into that airport in a full month.
