Who here remembers pencil fighting in grade school?
Posted by TexasTiger08

You never wanted to use the NFL or MLB team pencils. You always got some regular No. 2 made by Oriole or some shite like that. Always had to be wary of the guys who would get their arms and shoulders going to get some extra momentum behind that metal eraser.

Pencil fighting was all out war in elementary school in the late 80s.
When regular fights got boring, we would go five licks to one against the giant red jumbos.

I'd usually bust this out and they'd move on without even trying

We called it pencil break. Can’t think of the names now, but you knew if you had a decent chance depending on the name brand.

If only we had known these school teachers were hot to trot with their students maybe we would have stopped these silly games and focused on our other pencils.

Yep. Pencil fights and paper football led to a few real fights.

My dad was a bit of a prankster and did wood and metal work as hobbies. When he found out about the game he built me a super pencil. He drilled out the "lead" from the eraser end with an aircraft bit stopping about an inch before the end so it would look and write like a normal pencil. He then glued in a tungsten welding rod and replaced the eraser. It was near invulnerable and the added mass make it a pencil cracker.
I was undefeated for a long time until the wood literally exploded off the tungsten. Then every boy wanted my dad to build them a super pencil.

I thought this was going a different way. I still have 3 clearly visible deep pencil lead tattoos in my hands from 48 or so years ago.

We called it Pencil Pop.
Any time you saw a kid with the composite pencils (recycled wood) you knew you had an easy round.
