Just saw this.

Come on in brother, the water’s fine. Few places on the outskirts with some acres and no restrictions. They sell 2k sq/ft double wides in Woodville for 120k. Put a tin roof over it that extends enough for an outdoor kitchen and you’ll be doing way better than most

There was a married-student housing trailer park i lived in for part of a year, while my dad got his phd, in the 70s.

That's pretty much the only non-white-trash way that's done. And yet I'd definitely live in one now if I owed it.

Other way is it you buy land and don't feel like building right away (borderline is saving to be able to build).

I remember when I considered a trailer to be an upgrade.

Rules i lived by in my bachelor days...

1. Never bang a single mom
2. Never a girl with a beer gut
3. Never ever bang a chick living in a trailer

I've spent the night in a couple of them, but never owned or paid rent to actually live in one.

I knew a number of people that lived in them while going to LaTech. There were some pretty good parties in the parks on weekends.

In the mid-80's, I knew a guy that lived in one in Irving, TX. Some Banditos lived there too.
They ran a bar in Ft. Worth that sold us six packs on Sundays.

Can't share any other slumming in the trailer park stories without incriminating myself for participating in various illegal activities.

I don’t get the obsession so many people have with living in the middle of nowhere. How is trailer in the woods better than a giant brownstone in Brooklyn? My preferred degree of density can move along a spectrum, but I have no desire to live miles from people. I currently live in a city, but it’s residential enough that the houses still have lawns and swimming pools. I can walk to a grocery store or to bars/restaurants if I chose to do that.
To answer the OP I don’t think I ever saw a trailer (non RV) until I was in high school except for on TV. I’ve been in RV’s but not a trailer that people actually call home.

I lived in one for a year with my brother during my college days in Starkville. It was pretty cool. Neighbors were former football players at the college. They partied hard but were friendly and kept to themselves.

We had a couple of cats that would pop in and out of the door. They were domesticated and would start meowing as soon as they walked into the kitchen.

Because it's not "nowhere" to them. They are wired differently than you. It's also an age thing. Younger people like the excitement of the city, but as you grow older you value that a lot less

Rush had a song about this cycle

Some will sell their dreams for small desires
Or lose the race to rats
Get caught in ticking traps
And start to dream of somewhere To relax their restless flight
Somewhere out of a memory Of lighted streets on quiet nights

Not everyone wants to live in a big city. I don't see how that's hard to understand. I have zero desire to live in Brooklyn.

Lived in a singlewide until I was like 10.

In middle school, when we eventually moved into a real neighborhood with traditional houses (nothing special, just a working class neighborhood), it was like moving to a different planet.

know 3 guys that did after college to save money to buy houses. they all 3 did within 12-18 months. found one on land outside of town that was actually a cool spot. partied my arse off there a few times too. rent was like 550/month total so they saved a shite ton and all moved on.

hope you got a good price from those Banditos Cruiser, you can buy beer and wine on Sundays in TX after noon, Irving was slow to come around, but that wasn't a Sunday thing, that was a dry city thing, all you had to do was go to the next town over to the west, Euless

I did in my mid to early 20s. But after spending some extended time in a few, I grew out of it.
