The answer - in every market in the world - is Krispy Kreme. See you at Sonic.

Shipleys as a franchise has declined in tastiness over the past 30 years, but it's still my go to.
Shipleys in Monroe was the GOAT!

i spent many sunday mornings sneaking into the adult sunday school rooms before Big Church scarfing leftover donuts.

Does BR have a donut shop next to the nail store in every strip mall like DFW does?

We have nothing akin to that in Atlanta so it's always amazed me to see the Dallas Asian donut culture.

Butterkrisp in Covington, LA is the best donuts on the planet when you get them fresh. It makes KK taste like the corporately manufactured cardboard approximation of a donut that it is.

I like Shipleys but rarely buy donuts. I read it has been bought by a PE firm, but don’t know if just Texas shops or all. So, Mary Lee for the win, here. Butter Crisp Diner in Covington, though, beats all.

I don’t get the hype on Mary Lee. They are ok.

I think it varies a bit by location. As some have mentioned, the one on Perkins is really good. If you like the light style Mary Lee donut, they do it well.

I guess in BR that’s all there is. That I know of. I don’t live in BR but travel there to see family.

I grew up on Meche's in Lafayette, hard to beat when hot.

I don't understand why everyone likes mary lee so much. They are the worst donuts in BR in my opinion (other than dunkin). I realize I'm in the minority with this opinion but I have never liked them. Their dough is heavy and gets hard quick. their glaze is meh and their chocolate icing is straight trash. Give me day old krispy creme over mary lee. Thee Heavenly donut on Highland is pretty good and they make stuffed biscuits and stuffed waffles too that are awesome. I used to like Meche's but I don't think they're in BR anymore. Port Allen Bakery has good donuts too.

Back in the day, Shipley’s in Bunkie were worth the drive.

Mary Lee is good fresh, hot, at the counter. But they are some of the worst just a couple hours later. Chocolate covered from fleur de lis are legit when fresh.

Nobody brought up Nashville, but since we’re on Tennessee, Gibson’s Donuts in Memphis deserves a mention. It’s the closest thing to Mary Lee’s you’ll find

Mary Lee has the best glazed donuts in the state.

That would be Southern Maid in Shreveport-Bossier.
