This. My wife pays the monthly bills because early in our marriage I showed a propensity to not give a shite if certain folks didn't get paid for a month or two at a time. She took over that part 20 years ago and has both our credit scores over 800.
My contribution is to create the long term plan: elimination of debt (done), save for kid's college (well on the way), and save for retirement (not so good right now)

I literally have a flash drive with all this info on it in a safe. There’s also a very detailed letter outlining what to do, when to do it, and how to do it. When my grandfather died he went somewhat suddenly and left very few instructions. I saw how stressed my mon was during an already difficult time.

My wife is an Eldorado finance executive.
And I still handle our month to month.

My wife and I are the opposite. She has to because it stresses the hell out of me.
I know the money is leaving, I just don't want to watch it go.

One thing I learned as I got older, there are some gender stereotypes that are just flat wrong. Financial responsibility in the household is more about personality than gender.

I don't anymore.

My dad is a financial advisor, he taught my mom this after having widow after widow come into his office saying they don’t know what they have, what they owe, or how to manage it. After that he taught my mom to do the finances because he never wanted her to deal with paying all the bills and figuring out a funeral at the same time. I keep my wife involved for the same reason.

We have separate and a joint account for bills. I pay bills, since my wife is a Nurse and works a different schedule than I.

I’m in research and purchasing. My spouse is over accounting.

I handle everything for our household. All our money goes into one account and then I send money to my wife’s account at the beginning of the month for whatever it is she wants to buy. Usually she’s spent all that money 1/2 way through the month and there is a fight about needing more money. Every month.
We would be broke if my wife handled the finances. Scary part is that she graduated with an accounting degree but has no idea how to manage personal finances.

I do. He direct deposits his checks into my account and I give him money weekly that he can blow on whatever. I pay all bills and groceries and his Amazon purchases.

I do. Like some of the others, my wife makes more than me but isn’t very disciplined with money. She is getting better at seeing the big picture. I have told her that my way with finances isn’t fun or sexy but it works.
I don’t agree with the split accounts thing. Doesn’t seem practical but that’s just my opinion.
