Wow. That’s a great thought. We used to keep an eye out for it in the woods behind my house. Like it was lurking behind every nook in the creek.

Maybe not quicksand, but the wrong step in the swamp/marsh and you could be in trouble.

Now that you mention it. I was convinced it was the same color as whatever ground it was embedded in, so you could not possibly see it coming until after your fate was sealed.

No one’s probably ever seen that shite

So you’ve also watched John Mulaney’s first Netflix special?

Oh.

Mythbusters did have an episode about it, though. I think.

John Mulaney:

quote:

Like, uh, I always thought that quicksand was going to be a much bigger problem than it turned out to be. Because if you watch cartoons, quicksand is like the third biggest thing you have to worry about in adult life behind real sticks of dynamite and giant anvils falling on you from the sky. I used to sit around and think about what to do about quicksand. I never thought about how to handle real problems in adult life, I was never like "Oh, what's it gonna be like when relatives ask to borrow money?" Now that I've gotten older, not only have I never stepped in quicksand—I've never even heard about it! No one's ever been like, "Hey if you're coming to visit, take I-90 'cause I-95 has a little quicksand in the middle. Looks like regular sand, but then you're gonna start to sink into it."

I’ve never seen or heard the John Mulaney skit.

Just watching an old movie and someone is in quicksand, and it reminded me of all the movies where a character ends up in some.

I used to be obsessed with the Bermuda Triangle.

This thread makes me think about other things I though as a kid. I used to think everyone who worked at a bank was rich.

The Atari game 'Pitfall' had me nervous about quicksand.

Is this like the proudest moment of your life that you caught a reference to pop culture?

I could send you completely over the edge if you could catch every Norm MacDonald joke I use in real life conversations.

Absolutely thought I had to stay vigilant.

Then, when I was about 8, I was playing at the lake shore and jumped off a big rock. I landed in that coffee ground mud and sunk to my chest, proceeded to flail about thinking the quicksand was sucking me in.

My family had a great laugh at my expense.

I definitely did. I came up with so many contingency plans in my head for if I ever got stuck in quick sand. I can't believe I did all that planning for nothing
