grew up down the street from him, his replacement at Woodlawn had a decent NFL career too, everyone in that area got college scholarships for sports, we thought that was normal, although that would clash with the travel ball cult thread

I'm hoping in about 10 years one of them will be a kid who just graduated high school and is a projected first round MLB pick. He's an incredibly nice kid who I think could be a star

I met the entire 2012 USA basketball team in Spain while they were there training for the 2012 summer Olympics.

We were checking into a hotel and Lebron walked down the hall. As he passed, I shook his hand. Later that night before dinner, I got to meet all the team as they were passing through the lobby headed to practice; Lebron, Hardin, Westbrook, Chandler, Kobe. And even met some of the Spanish team and Argentina teams.

I’ve met plenty I guess but the most interesting and personally relevant was Mickey mantle when I was about 12.. baseball was my life and he was a living legend who treated me kindly and patiently while not realizing till years later how hungover he was as he was still boozing heavy at this point in the 1980s..

I lived in Atlanta for a few years as a kid and our neighbor was a doctor who leased office space from Aaron. I was invited to go meet him when my neighbor signed a new lease.

The other ones were at an Old Timer baseball game in the Super Dome in the mid 80s. A guy I know who went to Tulane dad grew up with Larry Doby in New Jersey and he got set up with dugout passes for the game. Dimaggio was an honorary non playing captain. We actually went to dinner with Mays and Doby at the long closed Eddie's Restaurant. It was surreal being at that event.
