Semantics aside, I think the intent was to exlcude a pair if you could get from to the other without having to go through another state.

Doesn't mean all 4 share a border. The diagonals are just very close.

So if they technically never touch at the intersection does this mean there is no border there? You could intersect them at a trillionth of a nano inch, is there a no mans land?

Each state only has two borders there. There is no "no mans land".

I get that you can jump from one to the other. But every part of you will pass through one of the other states before you land.

The corners touch, I'm sorry you can't grasp this simple concept

They would meet at point 0,0

This discussion is getting dangerously close to Flatland.

They don't. I'm sorry you don't understand math and facts. It is a common point. Not a border. Literally zero land touches the diagonal state.

Illinois/Michigan is a possibility ... It's a long way to the northern most point of the upper peninsula.. They are really really close but don't border just South of Lake Michigan.

It is confusing the way you put it. But Alaska has to be one of the states. I would guess Texas would be the other one, as those are the two biggest states. So the distance across each would give the biggest numbers in difference. Is that what you are asking for?

Interesting question. I'm looking at a map now and never realized some of these states were as close to one another as they are.

Texas and Colorado I think is the winner of this (excluding Hawaii Alaska), montana washington a close second. Some other notables not mentioned include Illinois and Arkansas, North Carolina and Bama.
