So the same two states are both the closest to each other without touching and the farthest from each other from furthest ends?
AZ and TX was a terrible guess then. Are you sure you understand it?

Colorado and Texas?
I've got to think Kansas and Texas between that little sliver of Oklahoma is closer. And the real answer is probably somewhere in the northeast
Eta: I'm an idiot. Colorado is right across the sliver of Oklahoma as well.

State of sobriety and state of inebriation.

Texas and Florida? Along the Gulf coast they're about 5 hours apart and from El Paso or Dallum Co. to Key West, well, it's pretty far. About 2,089 miles between El Paso and Key west.

Probably TX-CO but CA-ID is in the running. I don't know how you plan on calculating the winner.

Southaven, MS to Key West, FL is ~1200 miles
Miss-A-Bama, MS to Pensacola, FL is ~90 miles
The Mississippi state line to the Florida state line is more like 60 miles as the crow flies (at the closest point)

Upon a quick look at a map, it's between northern Vermont -> Maine, northeast Maryland -> NJ, and TX -> CO/Kansas IMHO

I'm thinking the metric would be farthest two points total minus closest two points total.
Highest number wins, gotta be lower 48

I'm looking, Rummel. Don't patronize me.
Two states that are the closest without touching and also the farthest...
Well, closest would be the states on the 4 corners. CO, AZ, NM and UT

Well the closest states that don't share a border are obviously the diagonal states at the four corners. No shared borders yet 0 miles apart.
So which of those pairs has the farthest two points?

They all share a border at the four corners, they touch

Illinois and Tennessee are pretty close without touching.
