I am ~10 years older. Far and away the best car radio of my teen years was the Pioneer Supertuner III. You could easily pick up KSMB from Lafayette and B-97 from New Orleans while in BR and it had great punch in the days before a sub and amp in every trunk.

I had the face that could come off, but I forgot to take it off one time. Some miscreants busted out my vent window on my 66 mustang to get the radio. The damn car was unlocked and the vent window assembly cost more than the radio.
