Nice to see cities being thrown out aside from Houston, DFW, Austin, SA.

there's a lot of great living outside of SA, Houston, Austin, and DFW. i'm in Temple, and i can fully admit it's a fairly boring town, but anything i want to get to is 2 hours away and i don't have to deal with traffic and high CoL.

Where in the annals of history did Houston flood worse than Harvey? You're fricking high.

Houston is terrible

And now we see that it floods also. Can't see any positives in living there

Yea every 3 or 4 years.

Last ice storm was like 3 years ago. Thunderstorms, yea, but nothing terrible. Wind storms? It's windy a log here, but again, nothing terrible. Tornadoes aren't that frequent. Only 2 memorable ones in the last few years.

Drought hasn't really happened since the whole country was in a drought a few years back.

The point remains that all occur with equal or greater frequency than weather events in Houston.

Tornadoes are destructive but the damage is contained to a very small area; the entire region is not shut down for days. Now a big ice storm can shut us down for a day but any damage is very light. The Superbowl Ice Storm severity was not like anything I have seen in my 25 years in Dallas. And even then, damage was not extensive, it was just a matter of thawing out. Thunderstorms are nothing. There may be plenty of reasons not to live in Dallas, but weather is not one of them.

I got back from Austin last night after 3 days there for the HashiCorp conference. It was hot, crowded, full of overly aggressive and pushy homeless folks, and the people try too hard to "keep austin weird". I don't get the love for Austin, but to each their own.

You're the first person I've ever seen to claim Dallas weather doesn't suck as bad as Houston. Houston has humidity and occasional tropical storms.

Dallas has ice storms, thunder storms, wind storms, tornadoes, heat and drought.

I mean, Houston just underwent one of the biggest natural disasters in the country's history. While I get that it's not going to be replicated often, it's kind of weird to downplay Houston weather issues in that regard.

But for me, Dallas is just a far more comfortable city on an everyday basis, and I think that is a fairly widely-held opinion.

If you have a family or starting one - Allen, TX.

Ranked #2 city in recent Money magazine, has 4 of the top 5 elementary schools in Texas. #1 school in Allen is ranked #25 in the nation.

I've lived in Houston for 20 years . Lots to do , and located to most things . Medical care (med center) is the best. The flood was scary .

If I had to pick , i'd say San Antonio or San Marcos area . That part of texas is just amazing.

Austin is great, but it is greatly overpopulated at this point . People EVERYWHERE.

fair enough. killeen sucks balls. but it's 1/3 of the population between waco/killeen/temple/mcgregor/belton/harker heights metro area (if you want to roll them all together.)
