They're all worth living in. What kind of lifestyle do you want to live? What do you do for work? You could stay within DFW and just move to any number of different areas of the metroplex and your daily life would be completely different. Most people live the majority of their lives within their own 3-5 mile radius bubble. Figure out your needs/wants and you can determine which bubble is the best fit.

All depends on what you're looking for in a city. Growing up in the 'burbs, I've been to enough chain restaurants and strip malls to take a mortal man's soul; so being near places that reject the mass produced cookie-cutter mentality is important to me. So in terms of being "unique", I'd rank the big three this way:
1. Austin (albeit almost annoyingly so)
2. Houston (Historic Heights, Montrose, EaDo, etc.)
3. Dallas (the flashiness lends itself to a lot of pricey national brands being opened, and IMO seems to get a little stale; I am not well-versed with local Dallas however, so please feel free to correct me)
Traffic is a tie for shittiest; more of a Texas problem than a city problem, in my opinion.
Besides the job prospects (oil, engineering), Houston in the right places hits that happy medium for me. Not too stuck up (Austin), not too boujee (Dallas), not too many ugly women (SA).

I have to agree. My mom recently moved to downtown grapevine and we went and visited several weeks ago. I was really surprised and impressed! So much shite to do and great places to eat within walking distance. Felt like a nicer, more rustic version of uptown NOLA

If you want the chill, laid back city....Ft. Worth is hands down the place the be.
If you want to the laid back attitude with more traffic and no culture, Houston.
If you want to be in the middle of it all, then Dallas.
Right in the heart of Dallas is one of the most affluent areas in the country, of course it's going to be pretentious and you'll see a ton of Porches, Maseratis, Benz, BMWs.

Lived in TX since 89. I've lived in DFW area for all but 2 years of that when I lived in Houston.
Houston positives - fresh seafood, close to water/gulf
Houston negatives - traffic sucks, prone to flooding, humidity, zero zoning laws..
DFW - Have lived in Frisco since 93.. Positives great schools, infrastructure new (< 20 years old), Professional soccer, hockey, baseball, football in city. Great restaurants, nightlife, etc.
Austin - not as familiar with Austin other than they are proud of being weird and liberal.

Between Austin and San Antonio
Access to 2 major Int Airports
San Antonio is an Education and Health hub
Austin obviously the center of State Government and UT
Public/Private education is 1st rate
San Marcos, Buda , New Braunfels are great places to raise a family
lastly, the recreational opportunities offered by numerous lakes and the Hill Country

This statement gets more correct the further away from downtown Houston you get. But if you're inside the loop, Houston is pretty sweet. Better baseball to be watched, too.

I like living in houston but the heat/humidity is suffocating. I'd think Dallas would be nice but I've never lived there. San Antonio I like too.

Been in Texas all my life and have had a lot of opportunities to move to any of the cities mentioned. i choose not to because i like small town living.
that being said, i'm in each of them all the time.
Gun to my head:
1. San Antonio: Lowest cost of living that i can tell, millions of things to do in town and between SA and Austin. And sir Charles is wrong. There are tons of hot soccer moms out on north 281 and Stone Oak
2. Fort Worth/Grapvine/Nameless Dallas suburb: Big city living without being in the heart of Dallas trash.
3. Houston: i used to not like it but it's really grown on me. there is a lot to do and i feel like there's a natural diversity to the entire area.
4. Austin: i'd rank it higher if not for the overt effort to try to hard. if you're young and single or young and childless there's no reason NOT to live here if it's an option. if you're miserable in Austin it's your own damn fault. Suburbs are all great options. Except like Del Valle or something.
5. Dallas: expensive, pretentious (not as much as Austin, but they have half the reasons to be,) and just kinda bland.
i'll throw out some smaller towns as well
New Braunfels/San Marcos: Probably the best part of the state. close to Austin/SA without being in the middle of it. outside of tourists and river rats, i see no downsides to living here.
Waco/Temple/Killeen area: growing towns that are more suited to raising a family than young professional lifestyle. low cost of living, but not a lot of night life and culture. there will never be a concert here worth seeing. lots of outdoors activities and restaurants. Despite the rape, Waco is surprisingly on the rise. 2 hours from DFW, SA, and Houston. 1 hour from Austin.
Midland/Odessa: there's money, but it's hot, ugly, trashy, and boring. my BiL had an offer to triple his salary and take a job out there but he just couldn't do it.
Tyler: really boring. really hot and sweaty. probably not a terrible place to raise a family. despite all the shite it gets, it's really pretty out there.
Valley/Corpus: Gets crapped on for good reason, but reasonable cost of living with nice people. close access to Port A, SPI, Laguna Madre, etc. Wouldn't move there unless there was 6 0s involved.
San Angelo/Abilene: nice west Texas towns that are growing. Good eating, hunting, and activities. both are realllllly conservative towns but probably a good place to raise a family or retire.

The commute from south to Austin or north to San Antonio is not worth it. If you can find work in one of the in between small cities it may be a good idea.
I think I prefer DFW though.

You're the first person I've ever seen to claim Dallas weather doesn't suck as bad as Houston. Houston has humidity and occasional tropical storms.
Dallas has ice storms, thunder storms, wind storms, tornadoes, heat and drought.

and it's hot AF. Houston usually has a breeze and showers to cool it down a little.

Nice to see cities being thrown out aside from Houston, DFW, Austin, SA.
In all honesty, if you are comparing these to the dregs of Louisiana, they'd all win. Hell, even the Valley and Corpus Christi are better than what you see east of the Sabine.
