Work and family go hand in hand. Family should drive your desire to work and why work your arse off if at the end of the day you have no one to enjoy it with.

Community comes in a distant 5th or 6th on my list of priorities. If you don't like your community just sell your house and move to a new community. But then again community is subjective depending on how big of a radius you make it.

Family...

I made the mistake of investing the bulk of my time into my community and at the end of the day, no one really cares. Once I came to that realization, I funneled my efforts into my family's success and things have never looked brighter.

Love everyone around you, help when you can, but family should always be the priority.

Perpetual Catch 22 for me. I want to give my family everything. The house my wife wants, best school for my kid, don't worry about a thing. That doesn't happen if I don't bust arse at work. Plus I love my job.

I just tell myself every American family sees each other only a couple hours a day and on the weekend. You either luck into money and spend more time with your family, or work hard enough to eventually spend more time with your family. Can't have both.

You're funny but truthful: We are who we are. There's no getting around it. Accept what you are and everyone else will.

There's no denying that men & women think differently and are different. If you had to describe any man or woman (only one word adjective), what would it be?

It never fails that most people can't get it right.

(Only one person has answered it correctly. And it was a woman.)

Balance. I volunteer in my community by building all of the sets for our Little Theatre, and the way I look at that is...it's for me. I put my family above my job because I work from home and there's always more time...I can stay up all night to get work done, but I can't recreate the time I bring my son to soccer, or do the laundry/dishes before my wife gets home.

My wife told me last night I could smile more, act happy if I'm happy...if I'm not then why 'do it.'...so I guess I need figure out how to juggle it all better. There's no answer besides do what you can to make yourself happy and those around you (family).

Be your own best friend first otherwise nothing else will help make you happy. They'll always be a void. If you don't care about yourself you truly won't care about anything else.

In this example work is still the most important thing.

Without work, you can't live. Everything else is only possible if you are alive.

Being a requirement and being #1 isn't necessarily the same thing.there are millions of jobs out there, but I have only one family. If I mess things up at work- there's more work to be found elsewhere.

I find this discussion interesting. Without work, you can't take care of the others.
Without family, why care about the others.
If you live in a craphole where no one cares about anything, I guess there is nothing to say but sit at the mailbox and wait.

It's like you read my mind Fred! I agree 100% .

Work is a necessity, not a priority. If work becomes a priority you have failed as a parent or husband. No company will ever give a shite about you when you're retired or dead.

Family: Your SO and children. When all else turns against you, they will be the only ones there.

Yourself: Strive to find comfort and some joy in your life. You owe it to yourself.

Work: A necessary evil that permits you to live the life of your choosing.

Community: They can frick off. Not one of them really gives a crap about you. You will see it after a tragedy hits you. They are all about facebook and rally around you in a time of crisis. But it stops there. None will go out of their way or change their habits to assist you after the initial outpouring of false sentiment.

Nothing is even close.

If you prioritize your family as the most important, the rest will fall in line.
