Calvin's.

I always see different kids there. I am not sure if they just work a few shifts to get service hours, they quit because they're teenagers, or its a difficult place to work.

Cut grass in the neighborhood if it's an option. You can easily undercut commercial operations and the best part...Straight cash, homie.

Buy him/her a lawn mower and let them be their own boss.

Two good lessons learned. First is understanding markets, costs, dealing with people and simple mechanics.

Second, and more important, they'll learn early whether they want a life of working outside in the heat doing labor or get an education or other marketable skill.

If he’s a baseball guy tell him he should get into umpiring. Can make pretty good money from that, especially for a 16 year old.

My son has a job working evenings at out local gym. Duties include straightening out the weights, cleaning equipment, sweeping the basketball court, vacuuming, taking trash out, cleaning mirrors, and other misc. things. He works from 4 to 9 a few days a week. He isn't making a killing, but it's a good gig for a 16yr old.

Don’t let your kid work at that place.

I worked there in my youth. The job sucks, but the after parties were amazing.
