You pretty much have to play constantly from birth to develop into a good hitter, so yeah. Be aware, it might backfire & he might grow to resent & hate you & the sport.

There are plenty of things he can do to stay active besides play baseball. Give some other sports a try, but if he's in middle school go the nerd route. I hope all my kids are big time nerds. Not doing travel ball sounds awesome.

Not baseball, but my son stopped playing soccer after 11 years (5 through 15) and it was a little sad. He was absolutely burned out and physically beat up, plus he had missed out on a lot with all his matches and travel .
He hasn't missed it a lick and, frankly, we haven't missed the travel either.

Since travel ball game along, 12 years old is the end of most rec ball. Just time to move on to the next thing.

I played baseball until about that age and then I found basketball and football which were way more fun.

Why don't you buy him a table saw, angle grinder, acetylene torches, etc? Show him what real men do and maybe he won't grow up a pussy like most of folks now a days.

Heaven forbid you have to actually do some parenting now. Maybe instead of living vicariously through him with baseball you could prepare him for adulthood.
Maybe limit the amount of time he can spend on vidya. Maybe promote hobbies and interests that will lead to both psychological and physical development. Maybe work to make your kid well-rounded.

8th grade I quit baseball. I realized that I wasn’t really that good and football was more fun. Ended up with all kinds of awards over the years got recruited by colleges and played 2 years college ball. No regrets.
OPs son is just trying to find his thing. That age is when a lot of kids quit baseball because it starts getting more advanced and it weeds out the good ones from the not so good ones.

Wtf is this. As a 40 year old, we worked our butts off in the fields and cutting yards and what not. Stop living vicariously through your kids sports. We viewed work as workouts for sports and life beyond sports. It’s the parents creating this nightmare. Then they come to work everyday and waste half the day bitching about their kids sports. Stop the effing madness!!!!!!

My oldest quit at 12 yo, he just got burned out playing from Feb til the end of July.
My youngest told me one day at pitching machine practice, "Daddy, why am I playing baseball? I dont even like baseball." I told him he doesnt have to play anything if he doesnt want to.
