When was last time you answered a phone call on a home landline? When did you phase out?

I'd say last time I answered on a home phone land line was maybe 2010, I'd say 2006 was when they were starting to get phased out of my house and more calls were coming in on cell phones than home phones.

As an aside, am I the only one who thinks there is a Murphy's Bar/Pub in every single US city? I can name 8 off the top of my head in every single large US city. Just can't think of any big city without a Murphy's bar.

Probably 2005-2006 or so. We lived in Germany, and, at the time, it was still cheaper to call internationally from a landline. We used cells for everything else, but had the landline strictly to call back to the states.

When I turned 16 in 2006, I got my driver’s license and a cell phone. I was the last in my family get one. I think my dad cancelled the home phone the day he bought the cell phone.

About 5 years we got rid of ours, the alarm company we use started with a cellular system so we didn't need it anymore.

I rarely use the phone at office desk except for answering incoming calls.

We kept a landline a little longer than most in this thread (2009) but only because the wife had to fax her time in, they wouldn’t allow it via email. As far as taking a call on one, probably 2006-07.

I think when the batteries went out on the handset we just never replaced them and just canceled the service
We initially kept the service because the provider had decent coverage because our son lives in Australia

Some people still need land lines because they don’t have good reception. I don’t have one but I use my parent’s and grandmother’s landline.

It’s been so long I can’t remember when we finally did away with a home phone line. Maybe somewhere around 2010-2012?

Moved to my current residence over ten years ago, haven’t had a landline at it, so some time before that.

And, as I recall, it was mostly telemarketers on the landline before that.

Mrs Füt’s (no pics) dad (Aggies plz, no pics) was born in the ‘30s and still only has a landline. He’s been in the same house since the early ‘80s.

Moved into a new house in 07-08. We got a landline and it turned out to be an old fax machine’s phone number, we ended up getting fax calls at all hours of the night. Canceled after 2 days never had one since.

Somewhat related, but does anyone remember when as a kid the phone would ring and everyone was excited to answer? This was before the endless sales calls and caller ID, but like when the only people calling your home number were people trying to reach you.

I’m wondering how common it is to change the way you answer a phone when answering cell vs landline.

With a landline, it was always “Hello”

With a cell, I know who they are and who they want to talk to. So I answer, “Hey, [their name]”

My wife still answers with “Hello” which I now find weird. She knows it’s her parents, sisters… Why not greet them?

I’ve never had a landline.
My parents did.
