They burn more calories in the street than on the sidewalk?

This....a city can put bike paths for days and cyclists will still gravitate to clogging up 2 lane roads people use to get around. Don't give a frick that traffic is slowed down to 10 mph 6 cars deep behind them

My city doesn't have bike lanes anyway, so you can wait until it's safe to pass me

If this country could get its act together to actually improve infrastructure to a point where we can create dedicated bike + walking/jogging lanes that are protected/separate from driving lanes, like they are doing in Europe = all this drama would go away.

LA is the King of building terrible 2-lane roads with 0 room on the shoulder for expansion. This practice needs to end a swift & efficient death.

I'm with you on every bit of this. Roads are for automobiles. They are paid for with tax money generated through license tag sales and gasoline taxes. If a sidewalk is available then they should freaking USE IT!

I'll give cyclists a break to a degree, but this bullshite of getting a whole damned herd together, dressing up in spandex, and going out and slowing traffic on main thoroughfares is nuts! (I used to HATE driving along A1-A on the Florida Atlantic coast for this very reason.)

For you runners and pedestrians - I understand that sometimes there is no sidewalk and it becomes necessary to walk in the road, but for goodness sake, walk on the left side so you can see oncoming traffic and step up out of the road for a brief instant to keep from impeding traffic! (Did you not learn this when you were a kid? Do they not teach road safety any more?)

I understand the difference is minuscule but it is not the primary reason I run on asphalt road. Keeping a consistent gait is harder on an uneven sidewalk, especially at night. When running hundreds of miles per year, I’d still choose a minuscule softness difference all else being equal.

I have no issue with it if they would hop on the sidewalk when cars are coming the way I used to. They expect the car to move for them.

I usually jog in the streets due to the sidewalks being in poor condition. I also jog at 4-5am though when traffic is pretty non-existent though.

Yea I don’t have a problem with the cyclist until they do not follow road laws. They are supposed to stop at the stop signs just like the cars but more times than not, they do not.

Please pull your car over when you see me riding my bike and we can settle any issues you may have. I ride everyday in baton rouge and surrounding parishes. You can't miss me. I got a big arse beard and my BMX bike has pink wall tires pink handle grips, pink pedals. Some of you may have noticed me. The way you feel about cyclists and runners isn't even close for the hatred I have for you s of entitled dip sticks that think you are more important than everyone else. Always honking at people that aren't even in your way. I guarantee I will box any of you no matter your size or skill. I wish a trained fighter would honk his horn at me then stop the car and get out. Cause it is way more respectful than you pansies that honk and yell then speed off.

Roads are paid for with tax dollars and are for public use. There’re no laws prohibiting runners from using them.

In Baton Rouge it's illegal if there is a sidewalk, and requires specific adherence when there isn't one.

I don't really have a problem with runners who hug the edge of the road single file or even double.

The runners in downtown baton rouge who run three and four abreast in large groups and cut out in front of traffic; however, can F right off.

Apparently you live in a shithole as my town actually inspects the sidewalks and requires the homeowners to maintain them. Any tripping hazards are noted and the homeowner is given a few months to repair them. If not repaired the city has a contractor fix it and the homeowner gets billed.
From my experience this is a uniquely upper midwest phenomenon.

To add, busted arse sidewalks are hell to shovel when it snows so people generally maintain them.

Probably because of this. Then the city has to shovel it for you and charge you for that.

Runners and walkers have just as much of a right to be on the road as you.

NO! They do not.

You're not allowed to impede traffic or even jaywalk. They built sidewalks for a reason.
