In some European countries, drivers hit the horn when they approach corners to let people know to watch out. It's not that drivers are that pissed off, they just want to give others a heads-up.

If you have ever driven in a 3rd world country you will know that the car horn is considered an extension of the car and that it should be used as such. You drive with one hand on the horn at all times. The fact that this is becoming common in the US now should be an indication of the path the country is on.

Go to a foreign country and see how they use them. I spent some time in Amman, Jordan and I swear I think the horn is required use like a turn signal
Is here. They even hit the horn when they pass someone.

When you go out of turn at the four way stop you are getting blasted

It's appropriate to use your car horn to try to avoid an accident (someone about to merge into your car because they don't see you, etc.). Examples of when it's not appropriate are to express your emotions (anger the most common), or to greet your pal in the next lane. Car horns should be reserved for emergencies.

Let someone know the light turned green
Crossed state lines on a super long road trip
Let someone know they fricked up

Distracted drivers need to stop being offended when someone honks to let them know the light turned green.

Depends. If they’re clearly not paying attention I do a quick tap. I’ve never just laid in on it and I’ll always give you a few Mississippi before I do anything.

Eh. Sure I guess, but is that really going to make them move?
My general rule is a tap or two if you’re not paying attention and a longer press if you do/are doing something dangerous. As always, nuance and context are key. For example, there’s a difference between “lady is clearly looking at her phone and the light is green” and “she didn’t launch into the intersection the instant the light turned, and I’ve got places to go”.

Here in central FL, the snowbirds come like a horde of locusts in the winter so they can tell everybody how great the place they are running from is.
They consider a stop sign to be the place where, if you see a car a half mile away, it is a good time to nap. After they miss 6 chances to go, a horn blast lets them know that they are not the only car on the road, and that nap time is over.

Never. Cars should not have a damn horn.

That movie was the very first thing that popped in my head when I opened this thread.

And that scene really does sum it up. They both had a point but failed to understand each other and instead escalated because the dude was psychotic and the mom was a dick.
Sometimes things work out better when we all just cut each other a little slack.

Only two reasons, if a person doesn’t see the light tuned green, or to avoid an accident. Can’t stand trashy people that honk their horn all the time. I assume it stems from a shitty home life.

I think we should only get 3 honks a month on the car horn, because people honk the car horn too much. 3 honks, that's the limit. And then someone cuts you off, you press your horn, nothing happens. You're like, "shite! I wish I wouldn't have seen Ricky on the sidewalk!"

This is why we are referred to as “honkies”
I use my horn at least a dozen times a day.

When the first car in the line at a light doesn't go when it's green because they're on their cell phone!
