How is this relevant?

And you'd have to agree with my statement if your logic leads you to say the thief committed suicide. Keep my post in context if you can.

I mean, what's wrong with people? Trying to protect their possessions. What is this world coming to when someone can't even attempt to steal something without getting shot.

Stupid fricking idiots. If you try to frick with other people's shite, that's the risk you take. If you don't like it, then teach your kids not to steal. If they don't listen and they end up getting shot because they tried to steal something.. Well, they were aware of the consequences, they decided to take the risk.. Oh well.

cause and effect. We need to start teaching more personal accountability and consequential thinking

So the sister doesn’t care that he was stealing the car, just that he got caught and killed in the act?

So pathetic

Killing him removes him from vision but putting him in a wheelchair may potentially lead future dickheads from a life of crime

My point is that a running car is not an invitation and, in fact, carries a non-zero chance of a bullet in the arse depending on how slow you are.

I’m giving an example of cars left running and unlocked which don’t tend to get stolen because even the special ed crowd stealing cars knows that jacking a cop car ends badly.

Not justifiable homicide. At no time was the Chicago fire lieutenant's life in danger.

This implies a mastery of aim.

Pistols are good for hitting center mass. There’s a lot of organs that can cause them to bleed out but you have to be lucky or good to hit the spinal cord without being right up on them.

100% justifiable homicide. If you read the article, it states that he had to move to his left to avoid the vehicle when the thug tried to take off (life is in danger). Thug trying to use a deadly weapon was matched with another deadly weapon.

I think as soon as you take that first step towards committing a crime, be it breaking the window, hot-wiring the car, whatever, all bets should be off. You get shot, it's all on you.

Theft isn’t a capital offense, Chris. Killing someone for stealing your property is only justified if the threat of deadly force is imminent in this case.

Unless you’re in god’s country, Texas. You can even shoot someone running away from you after stealing your shite.

You added this part.

The article doesn’t state he was avoiding the vehicle.

quote:

According to a police report, the Jeep was parked on the right side of the street and the teen was turning left to pull away from the curb when he was shot. "Vehicle starts to move forward. (The firefighter) moves to the left and draws his concealed firearm and fires one shot through the driver’s window.”

I was going to quote the part you added. Correct it does not say to avoid. I would imagine when this was investigated though.

ETA: The article also doesn't say that he was not in harms way.

I'd be OK with citizens incarcerating and lopping the hands off these folks caught in the act of stealing. Walk out gun in hand, thief either gets shot or surrenders. Homeowner/vehicle owner then lops off thief hands and sends them on their merry way. Either way, shot or clipped, that's one less thief in this world.
