You can hold a baby alligator for free at the Oil and Gas park in Jennings. You’ll also see an alligator snapping turtle and a couple full size gators.

Maybe the rights to that song increased so, Dey all axe fuyou to pay them more. And if you go to the zoo high, you can actually hear the animals axe fuyou.

Think they increased it on Black Friday. Double shitty since most people were probably waiting to see if they could get a membership on sale. Incredible that anyone thought this was an acceptable way to roll out a price increase like this.

From what ive heard and read online (i cant personally verify)- the San Diego Zoo charges substantially less than Audubon for an annual membership.. like half as much .. and SD has far, far more wealthy resdients than does NO .

Admission prices also have gotten pretty expensive too. It is either 30 or 35 dollars to get in just the zoo. The aquarium is highway robbery at 50 dollars but you can buy a combo ticket to the zoo too for 54 dollars.

Those are insane ticket prices. A family of 4 would cost about 150 dollars just to get into the zoo or 220 dollars just for the aquarium and 250 dollars for a combo ticket.

Who do they think they are, Jurassic Park?
I think so because they also have the philosophy of coupon days with Orleans residents SNAP recipients being allowed to purchase tickets on certain days for 8 dollars. Next thing you know they are going to come out and say they spared no expense on an exhibit, but the animals keep getting loose.

I wonder if they got sued or lost a major sponsorship or source of government funding? (COVID funds ending?) Did they have some drastic increase in costs like wages (15+ dollar minimum wage city mandated) or a jump in employee healthcare costs? Could the zoo be another victim of outrageous increased liability and storm damage insurance costs too?

Someone is not being totally honest about the reason for the price increases. I wonder if the Taylor Foundation will be able to continue giving away limited memberships to certain honor roll elementary/middle school students at these increased prices. The reason I say limited was that before it was a full membership now it is limited to certain months when the zoo or aquarium has lower attendance numbers.

Maybe they are trying to price it so they can keep the riff raff out the zoo.

Just the opposite. The riff raff are getting in for cheap or free while those of us that have supported Audubon for decades via membership and taxes are being penalized.

Ours expires in March. We barely use it though because the zoo is just too far away and the aquarium pretty much sucks now. Too bad the old insectarium isn't still around.

You can check out passes to the zoo/aquarium/WW2 museum and lots of other museums from the library. You can check online to see what passes are available on a given day.

Luckily I re-upped in October for the old price - so I'm good until Halloween 2026, but frick them after that - I aint paying $500 for that shite. made sense to spend the $250 when single tickets costs $40, but not anymore.

I have no issue with free or low cost tickets for snap members but to be over run every day is excessive. Why not have certain days a week or month for snap free days?

Ron Foreman either was asleep or ignorant for the last few years he was in charge.

1) The remodeled aquarium / insectarium is awful. And if you get a single day ticket, you have to pay for both

2) they will tell you a membership is that much because you get access to everything. True. They need to sell zoo only and aquarium only memberships.

3) I get the idea of letting poor kids in for less money. It’s not the kids fault they are poor.

But so much of the city has snap, and so many people are paying so little to get in, that they feel they have to charge a ton to the few not getting in for free.

They already have free admission days for all city residents. Maybe change that to $10 tickets and get rid of the snap thing.

Maybe my perspective was just different because I was a little kid, but I remember loving the aquarium and felt like I could spend a solid 2+ hours in there looking at all the shite.

I took my son there a year ago and felt like we hit everything they had in about 40 minutes and we weren't in any rush.

En Lieu of re-upping another year at these prices, I think we are going to start visiting zoos in other cities as an activity when we go on weekend vacations. My kids will still get to see a zoo a few times a year and I don’t have to support this ridiculous move by Audubon for a fairly shitty experience

It’s been a long time since I’ve been to the Audubon Zoo or the Aquarium. It’s depressing to read these replies and learn that they have declined. Both of those places used to be showcases and real assets for the city.

Update: they have paused membership sales to “develop more cost effective alternatives”

They hope to have this by mid December, and if your membership expires before then it will be extended until the new options are online
