I'd rather be new money than have no money. Did your mommy send you some money to get that new window in your F150?

We have the reverse problem one of my buddies married an old road ho who never had anything.

No every time we are at their home she tells everyone what everything in the house cost.

You like that lamp ? It was $325.00
Hey look at my new couch - It was $700.00

on and on and on

About the same time that people started worrying too much about people's feelings to thell them that it's none of their business.

I don’t think I know a single person outside of a professional setting (looking at their tax returns) that I know exactly how much money they make.

You've never discussed this with a colleague or former colleague? How do you know the true market value of a position you are applying for?

I talk about pricing all the time with my neighbors and friends all the time. Mainly because we all have the same needs and want the best deals.

You have to ask who benefits from the secrecy, and it's not the employees.

A myth created by employers who didn't want salaries discussed among the workers.

People have no problem asking how much you paid for something

I don’t really care but it is weird

So what you’re saying is you’re bad at adapting to new trends. That’s ok man.

"I work hard so I don't have to look at the price tag." That usually shuts them up.

I was raised in a household where it was considered rude and tactless to ask someone how much they paid for pretty much anything.

It was also considered tactless for you to tell someone how much you paid for things.

It seems like everyone wants to ask you or tell you how much you/they paid for things and its gross.

Rant over.

Let me guess someone asked you how much you paid for a vehicle and their feedback was you overpaid and you got in a tizzy about it?

This.

My friends, family and I don’t talk about what we make, but we’re always trying to help e/o get good deals.

OT can tell you how much a plumber makes per hour and what is on his w2 from last year.

well thats easy. $180 for one hour so 8hrs/day x 365 = $500,200.00 per year.

Plummers make more than the average doctor. Everyone should tell their kids to become plummers.

Like someone else said, context matters. If you and some friends are fine with discussing this and want to share information to get the best prices great. But just asking someone out of the blue how much they spent on (insert thing) is just tacky.
