I don’t get the made up phobia. I feel like it’s the same people who say they hate the word moist.

When the original movie version of Stephen King's "It" came out.

So November 18th, 1990.

Don't know when it became trendy but I know I watched Poltergeist when I was way too young and this motherfricker was one of the main reasons:

Definitely not scared of clowns as an adult. That is a little weird.

I’ve been known for it for decades, not a trendy thing for me.

Mine is very specialized. Scary clowns don’t bother me in the least. Neither do rodeo clowns or circus clowns.

I just have a legitimate freak out over party clowns.

I've known people who were afraid of clowns way back in the 80s.

Phobias are simply irrational fears/aversions.

Not sure how you could possibly decide if one is more legit than the other.

My cousin is a registered clown, he did his clown college by correspondence when he was in prison. He mostly does bachelorette parties

Don't know but my BIL is one and I look down on and judge the frick out of him for it. He's also scared of dolls and my grandmother has a collection of porcelain dolls and a few of them are clowns. It's always fun to show the entire family what a pussy he is during family get-togethers at holidays.

Yeah, I'm old and know some people who have mentioned their dislike for them since childhood as well. I don't think it's "trendy".
