When did Easter become the second coming of Christmas for kids?

We got candy from the Easter bunny. My kids get candy from the Easter bunny. When did this tradition of giving kids presents for Easter become a thing?

My son got two hot wheels cars. My daughter got two sticks of lip balm. This is in addition to candy. No real gifts.

I said the same thing to the wife. She said “I’d rather give them little dollar store toys than load them up on sugar”. For once she actually had a valid point

I got a kite one time. Hot wheels are appropriate. Just not sure about the Easter

Social media? The competition of flaunting how much debt we’re willing to amass to seem exciting? It’s “Keeping up with the Jones’s” on steroids. People feel compelled to post pictures as some sort of elite status merit badge.

got my daughter a shite load of toys and candy, we also dyed eggs and had an egg hunt...and there ain't a damn thing wrong with it.

Yea I don’t really think this is as much of a thing as people make it out to be every year. We just got our kids a little basket, and a Polaris.

As a kid we got candy and a DVD or book or something. Maybe a stuffed bunny
when we were little.
I see my friends kids getting candy, but then also Lego sets, ps4's, video games, trampolines, basketball goal, NFL football jerseys etc (this is only what I've seen on FB today). Seems excessive, but not my kids, so no care.
When I have kids, they'll get a basket of candy, a stuffed bunny, lamb, or chick and maybe a book or Blu Ray.
I'll leave the bigger gifts for Christmas and Birthdays

We usually got a small gift along with the candy. Nothing big. One year I got basketball. One year my brother and I got an Atari game to share. Those are the only ones I remember. I’m 48, so this was late 70’s early 80’s.
