Beautiful pup.

Full AKC registered. But I really don't care about that. I just want her to remain healthy.

Yup. I did similar with my silver lab. I "researched" the breeders and bloodlines as best as I could to make sure there wasn't any inbreeding. or health concerns. She wasn't cheap but was well worth it. I haven't had to blood trail a deer since 2020

Well I believe you're correct. However, I am finding that there are still normal people out there who can provide good pets at reasonable prices. It takes a lot of searching and networking but you don't have to spend a ridiculous amount of money get a good family pet. Which is even more telling of the dopes that rush out and spent thousands because they think that's what it should cost.

It's a purchase that you will likely have longer than any car purchase. Doesn't seem that unreasonable.

We paid for a 2nd Gen female doodle puppy so she wouldn’t shed or smell funny since she’s a house dog. I don’t regret it for a second.

We tried a rescue lab but after it attacked the broom, wouldn’t get off the couch without biting and drug my 7 yr old all over the yard we decided to not deal with a dog with mental problems.

Probably has already been said in here but the answer is from Covid.
When everyone was bored as hell sitting at home with nothing to do and many people working from home. Add that scenario combined with the fact that so many people got $1k+ fun coupons eft’d to their bank accounts from the government at that time and decided to go out and buy dogs.

Supply of dog breeders probably didn’t change much, demand sky rocketed. And here we are…
Same can be said about prices with the whole veterinary industry

The personality of a three thousand dollar toy Snapapoodeldoodle is as lovely as a three thousand five hundred dollar credentialed Golden Retriever.

Did the same thing for my mini schnauzer. I knew what I wanted and when I could carve out the time to go get him and introduce him to the household. I think it came to $2800…? Money well spent.

My parents paid $5k for a dog that looked like a mutt back in 2003. Great dig but I about died when they told me the price years later.

Mrs. H2O and I have a German Shepherd now and he was worth every penny.

Back in the ‘80s I got into Beagles.Old man I bought my dogs from was a serious breeder, sent his females all over the country having them bred to various field champions,He had very good dogs.He would raise 2-3 litters a year,keep,2-3 puppies from each litter and sell the rest.

He told me a $200 puppy would sell faster than a $100 puppy.Same for grown dogs,a trained dog for $750 would sell faster than if he asked $500.
It was all about bragging rights, people liked to brag about how much they paid for a dog.
They also, liked to get a 5 generation pedigree with a puppy so they could brag that the dog “had papers longer than my arm”.
Pedigree didn’t mean anything if one didn’t know the dogs in it but most people didn’t realize that.Just gave them something to brag about.

Some breeds are just expensive and have always been expensive. Great Danes and English Bulldogs come to mind. I spent 1800 on my Dane , which is a lot, but includes getting him shipped to me. I've had lots of inexpensive dogs that were small pets, but Danes have always had my heart. They're just a beautiful and impressive animal. Also a total freaking goofball.

Dog breeders are like real estate agents. They control the supply, and charge accordingly. I know one that keeps telling people there is a list ahead of them, so they think if they dont grab one at a high price, they wont ever get one

Then she suddenly has one she needs to "house", because she didnt actually have all those buyers. But she makes so much on the ones she does sell, that she can give away others and still cha-ching
