don't hate because people are financially responsible,
You remind me of a dude I used to work with. There was a turnaround for over 3 months. for over 2 months it was 7 12s and when it slowed down he told me "man I made a lot of money and dont have anything to show for it"
I mentioned something about saving money and dude told me "but my new furniture looks good. My new clothes look good".. he went on and said something like "thats what money gets me" I told him to get back to me in 15yrs so I can ask him if he wish he kept the money or happy he bought new furniture and clothes".

It's not for everyone, but I recently did. Even flew out of state to go pick her up. She comes from a solid, generational, healthy bloodline. And that was important to me.
Full AKC registered. But I really don't care about that. I just want her to remain healthy. For as long as she can. She will give me as good of a life as I will give to her.
Little for now. Won't be little for much longer.
Beautiful girl you got there.
And same. Paid 3k for my boy in January. Took me a bit to get over the price shock, as I paid $500 for my last Dobie, but that was nearly 15 years ago. 3k was near the lower end of what I was seeing for quality bloodline breeders. But for a decade of a healthy best friend, it's really a small price to pay.
At 7 and a half months he already weighs 70 lbs

The market for hunting labs has gone down quite a bit. Our dog before this one cost $3000. Our current one, from the same breeder with a comparable pedigree, cost $1500.

Mark Richt has lost control of dog breeders.

Sorry you're poor.
lol no I’m not poor I could afford a pack of these over priced fur
Mongers
The fact is I’m not an imbecile that wastes money by overpaying because I can’t control my emotions.

Unfortunately not as much anymore. The non-pitts get scooped up by rescue groups and they ask for 30 pages of questionnaire and at least 500 dollars.
Our area too.
Rescues here make people jump through so many hoops I'm convinced they don't even really want to adopt out dogs. Applications, home visits, family interviews, they check vet records of former/current pets, they ask what you plan to feed, how you plan to train. Most will automatically deny if you don't have a physically fenced in yard (can't be an invisible fence) or will leave the dog alone for more than four hours at a time (no working outside the home). They will not adopt to someone 60 or older, some will not adopt to families with young kids. They also have provisions allowing them to take back dogs at any point in the dog's lifetime if they feel conditions are not up to their standards.
We put in an application for a puppy our neighbor was fostering. The rescue denied our application because our 1.5 acres isn't fenced. Dog is still being fostered by neighbor nearly a year later and they don't have a fence.
We considered buying a dog to avoid the rescue run around but ended up finding a rescue in a rural area that only required we neuter and keep up to date on vaccines and heartworm medicine. We adopted through them and he is the most spoiled good boy there is.

My 21 year old daughter wants one bad. She told us how expensive they were and said she will wait to get one when she’s out of college. I went online and searched and found some for $400 to $500 and showed her. She said those probably weren’t from prized breeders or were the wrong color/ Whatever. She can wait to get one.
I have two mini dachshunds. Both healthy. Both pure breed. I have a grand total of 300 bucks in obtaining both. One was free. One was the pup of a dachshund pair where the owners procrastinated in getting the male fixed.
Both great dogs with big personalities.

I can honestly say with the breed I have, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, I can tell the difference between those that come from a cheap breeder that charges $500 or so and one that starts at two grand and up. I've seen $4500 actually.
The cheap ones have much coarser fur and more health problems. I've rescued 18 and had 4 over the years so I've been able to see a good sample of them.
You can either pay on the front by getting one from a better breeder or on the back end by going cheap and then getting a lot more vet bills.

Most bred dogs within my family experienced significant health problems that caused them to die early (10-12 years). The rescue dogs we've had all lived longer

Understand but I'm talking within a breed. My previous one lived to 16.

I get the health problems, though my experience (considerably less than yours in a single breed) has been quite the opposite. But if you're looking for a pet, not a breeder or show dog if the hair is a bit courser, or the color marking aren’t exactly as that should be is that worth an extra 3k? I guess to each his own but I do not see the value in it as I said if your not working these dogs in show or breeding stock.

I’m old. We used to get dogs for free if somebody’s dog had puppies. They’d run free in the neighborhood, and you’d pen them up if the dog-catcher came around.
Now, these small dogs with big price tags, strollers, and all.
All I can say is I’m old.

At least for the “desirable” ones. I got my pittie without a question asked.
I had such a terrible experience with my rescue mutt being mean that my husband wanted a frenchie.
She was originally $7k and vetted for health but I got her at 2 years of age because she never went into heat. Of course she turns around and goes into heat so now I gotta get her fixed.

Rescued a Frenchie four years ago. Never again

Dachshunds are amazing dogs. Matter of fact all german breeds I've owned are awesome and some of the smartest dogs around. (Dachshund, German Shepherd, Std Poodle.) All smart as whips and very loving pets.
