They are still made in Maine at the LL Bean headquarters. They are back ordered every year at this time b/c the company does not have enough staff to accommodate all of the orders.
Pretty sure they have a warranty for life. They will resole them for free.

I have a pair from about 1987. I think they are on their third sole or so.

This is why I prefer Goretex lined trail runners. They look like regular tennis shoes, but can handle walking through a tempest. The only draw back is that they are harder to clean than duck boots when they get muddy.

That's the exact pair my dad (aka me ordering my gifts with his cc..and I have to wrap them) just brought me for Christmas. No back order on women size 8.

They were very frat in the early 1980s. Sorority girls wore the shortest version with a bright colored lower section. Guys wore the slightly taller version (9"?). I had a pair and loved them and need to get another pair.

I know they've been around for over 100 yrs and they've always been popular with the New England crowd, but when I say fashionable, I mean seeing soccer mom's wearing them at Lakeside in 80° non-rainy weather like I witnessed over Thanksgiving.

I don't remember them always being sold out in the 90's when I got them. My older brother says they weren't hard to get in the 80's either.
