re: When did all these crab restaurants pop up in BR and how do they stay afloat?

I do Uber Eats delivery occasionally and I accepted an order from Fiery Crab on Vets in Metairie. If you have drugged me and dropped me in the place, when I regained consciousness, I would look around at the clientele and would guess I'm in Nairobi.

They aren’t selling Blue crabs, something else, right?

That pirate guy posts here. His handle is FR33.

Honk next time you go by. He'll keep an eye out for you.

No, I’ve seen Fr33 at the Winn Dixie
Not the same as the thing on Seigen

They sell crabs which are a cash cow

I don't understand how people are going out and spending hundreds on crabs though. I'm living paycheck to paycheck in this economy

You can afford a lot of crabs if you don't buy car insurance or support your kids.

When I think of these restaurants, I think of the poor waiters and the 5% tips they must be averaging.

And you don't even say hello!

It’s like boiled seafood coated in some nasty arse oil. Greasiest boiled seafood I’ve ever had
Posted on 11/23/24 at 2:41 pm to jamiegla1
I think it's all frozen foreign seafood. I went inside one against my will one time and I did not feel safe.

It’s example #10000001 of Asians making bank off shite nobody else wants to do. They’re masters of creating simplistic and cheap businesses that draw in crowds and make huge profits. Their secret ingredient is they’re willing to deal with the shittiest clientele imaginable for a dollar, which most people aren’t willing to do. Look at all the gas stations they own in the worst parts of town.

I used to go to that Planet Fitness next to Firey Crab on Seigen. That place was always packed and the smell of the dumpster wafting into the back of that PF was unbearable.
People definitely go there.

They definitely seem sketchy - I know I’ll be in the minority for this but I miss Joe’s Crab Shack. At least you knew they probably weren’t serving crabs from a ditch in Vietnam. Probably.

how are they so popular

You will probably need a loan to eat at a crab restaurant.

Well, that's only one reason I don't eat at crab restaurants
I can get 5x the food for the same price and not have to eat it in an atmosphere that makes me want to do great violence.
Now there used to be snow crabs on buffets years ago I would tear up, but it seems those are all but gone now.
I just cant justify eating out when I can do just as good at a fraction of the price

It's boil-in-bag with choice of seasoning. I'm in NW Florida and they are everywhere here. All have different names but very similar meus
You left out and they suck. They have popped up all over Tampa Bay, too. It is New England style boil bag BS. I want my seafood fried or broiled. Not boiled.
