Upped and moved to LV after college with no plan, got into the casino business. Did that for 5 years, thought the grass was greener and left it to get into sales. I enjoyed that for a while, got to the point though that I hated it. Company I was working for sold and figured it was time to get back into the business.
So now back into the casino industry and realize it is what I enjoy and like doing. I should have just stuck with it from the beginning...but you live and you learn.
I enjoy the randomness, weird hours, meeting new people, and the stories.

sometimes your career path is chosen for you. I was at my desk one day when the boss walked in and said, "I want you to be the new purchasing manager".

First time:
21. Hadn't chosen a major yet, and I had a good time working at a summer camp. I was good at and enjoyed English. Decided to become a high school English teacher.
Second time:
27. Realized I was too good of a musician to not be pursuing it. Decided to become a professional musician and private music teacher.
Third time:
29. Realized that I was doing more teaching than performing and had a fellowship offer to a university. Decided to embark on the long journey of becoming a university professor.

Knew I wanted to be an engineer since HS, got my engineering degree. Did R&D work for a while, found out that you can make good money but not frick you money doing pure engineering. Went back and got my MBA and now I work for a small consulting firm as a management consultant in O&G and I love every minute of it.

Currently Executive Casino Host. I have done a few different jobs under Casino Marketing though.

After I realized I wasted my time at LSU I sat down and narrowed my future down to 5 reasonable career options that included paths to the career, potential in career, and interest to me.
The one that I chose was 3/5 for the path to it, 1/5 for potential, and 3/5 for interest.
All this happened at age 23.
Now, I dig in the dirt via a computer screen.

My path formed itself and I was just along for the ride, but I'd have to say 2009 getting into sales of valves and automation packages for said valves.
Been in the business since I was 19. Dropped out of college after I lost my full paid scholarship and tops. Got a job cleaning up machines and painting valves as a contract hand. They offered me a job with the company and I went from assembly to CNC runner in 1 year. 2 years after that I got a job in inside sales and learned valves and automation. Got laid off in '13, moved to BR and after one more job move, make 2x what I made before I was laid off.
I'll probably never leave this business but I tend to like the act of sales. I also like the technical side as I am now in applications and sales to plants in the Gulf Region.

I liked science and was good at math. A plant manager came to talk to my senior class in HS and made Chemical Engineering sound like a great way to go.

Kind of the same thing, although I'm sure I'll never make actual FU money. I have a couple colleagues who now work for major oil companies and I'm sure they make 10-20% more than I do, but they are going to be engineers until they are 40 years old. I think I'm much happier moving up the company ladder where I am. I love engineering, but I hate having to do it every day if that makes any sense. If I'm forced to do anything for too long, I hate it. I like new challenges.
