1995 5th grade shark week 2 paleontologists walking through stream finding shark teeth. During that same time I sat on a gravel pile and found a few good fossils.

That's exactly how mine started...except I procrastinated applying to law school so much that I ended up getting an offer to work for a large construction company in BR for a really good salary. I took it. Then I got laid of in '09 after the economy took a shite. Then I got a job estimating and did that for 10 months only to realize I didnt want to look at plans for the rest of my like. So I decided to get into the family business.

1995. When the USMC told me they didn't want an Officer with bad vision in one eye. Luckily I had a college degree and did a few Summers on a pipeline so I became a Pipeliner instead.

I actually fell into IS after graduating with a shite degree and realizing that it (the shite degree) could be parlayed into an IS job if I chose the appropriate graduate degree.

I guess you could say my life has been one bad choice after another.
Similar story, got a Political Science degree and decided not to go to law school.
Realized I was making crap money at other jobs so I taught myself software development at 27 and never looked back.

Wanted to be a physician, not smart enough in the sciences...opted to be an administrator of a hospital, instead, and chose Social Work as the route...met that goal and about 15 years ago the desire to pastor came about. Retired as an administrator, three years ago, and now serve as a pastor....nothing wasted as prior work history continues to serve me well, I think, as a minister

The funny part is my college room mate and I were going to do the Law School thing together, he did it and is killing it in law while I play on TD all day. Not sure who wins there.
