High school level workers I can understand your reasoning on that. Touché

Repeating, you know the answer to your own question.
You don’t like the answer but you know it.
If you don’t like it, you have a couple of options: address it with your boss (doubtful that will make a change in the policy) or change jobs.
Otherwise stop complaining and deal with it.
This should help you-

So how are they able to monitor your traffic? Are you on company wifi or is he seeing you do it.

No, I really don't know what everyone on the OT's work phone policy is. That's why I asked.
Honestly, I think my new boss is a micromanager and is trying to treat us like children. He is approximately 50, never married, and has zero social skills. Most of us are 30+, educated, successful, and have families that may need to contact us.
I repsect his approach to hard work, but I think he is going about it in a way that is going to straight up piss some good folks off.

He walks around like a spy. He even said he prides himself on sneaking up on people using their phone.

If I need to use my phone I do, it’s a professional environment though so nobody looking over my shoulder

Used to have 2 phones. One personal and one for NASA. I didn't like having a leash on me..but it is what it is (no more since I changed positions though).
No rules ever on personal phones unless I was in an EMI sensitive area. Then the test area rules applied. For the NASA phone I could make any call I needed personal or business or text or surf...I just had to remember NASA ITSEC policies were in effect I had no expectation of privacy (and no porn surfing etc).
Seems like your new boss is a jerk and wants everyone to do things as "Do as I say, not as I do". Lots of folks got run off from NASA when a disgruntled employee took pix of them sleeping at their console.

See that's the thing, I feel like I'm in a professional environment. Not where I need to be treated like a child. I meet with engineers daily that are on their phone.
Hell, when my boss said something to me about being on my phone it was that he sees me as his "lead tech" and wants me to set a good example... In my head I'm like "Half the employees are making fun of you for sleeping at your desk"
I don't want to be Dwight to Micheal Scott. Lol

Our work has one policy for everything: ignorance is bliss.
Place is run by idiots.

you want to do as you please, then get promoted to 'boss'. till then, do as you're told, quit bitchin', and for damn sure quit playin' on your little phone
Funny thing is, once you become boss, more people are judging you than ever before, so you have even less chance to do as you please.
Unless you work for a tiny company, expectations always increase as “boss.”

Expectation possibly, actual work... Debatable.
Both my current boss and my previous boss did/do very little actually. Hence my current boss having time to sleep on the job and my previous one gossiping more than a woman.
But! My previous boss was very good about staying out of your way if you were doing your job... Which I loved.

My phone sits right next to me on my desk. I also have a smart watch that lets me know if I get text or phone calls, then I answer them.
I just use my computer to surf tigerdroppings and Facebook.
I’m also a snowflake millennial who works at a tech job and wears flip flops and shorts to work everyday, so there’s that.

If I managed in an office setting vs. outside, I'd have the same policy. If an emergency arises, they can call your desk line.

And you'd have shitty employees. In a professional setting with qualified people, employees would tell you to frick right off and go get another job. This isnt junior high, if shite is getting done why do you care? First, a policy like that in general is bullshite. Second, unemployment is like 3.5%, it's not like people can't find work and have to put up with your bullshite.

My small company is a retail manufacturer
I had issues with cell phone usage at my company. What I implemented was a pay for performance plan. Instead of paying them by the hour pay them by the piece or task. the more they work the more they get paid. The less they work the less they get paid. New employees were paid a base rate during training then went to the piece rate. End result cell phone usage decreased production increased almost 200%

If shite isn't getting done, and I'm the manager, it's my place to care. It's my place to drive sales/revenue. If I feel your cell phone impedes that, than out it goes. Don't like it, that's fine, keep walking. But I guarandamntee you, there'll be 10 right behind you for what we pay our team.
