This is why you see them without makeup before you get serious.

My wife is old and kinda wrinkly, she looks better with it.
She doesn’t wear a ton of it,it’s not like plastered on.

She still weighs the same as when we got married 45 years ago.
Wish I could say the same.

I likewise wouldn't care either way. However, the money and time spent on hair and makeup is frequently cited as a uniquely female burden, and is further frequently cited as a burden imposed on them because of beauty standards established by men.

I’ve had two instances where women I know have said this. Both times I replied with “which men in your life are telling you you have to wear makeup? I can talk to them on your behalf if you’d like”. They both changed the topic.

In fairness though, like most things there is some truth to it. There was a time where men did expect women to be “dolled up” for them. Today’s ridiculous standard is at least partially based on that dated expectation.

Which is a time anyone under 50 has likely never lived in.

Now, I'll offer this caveat: it's common for me to hear from women that they get negative reactions when they don't wear makeup. However, I think they are misinterpreting that reaction as directed towards them not wearing makeup as opposed to it being jarringly different than how they normally look. I would be curious if any woman has had an experience in which they 1. Were meeting something new AND 2. They were well dressed and groomed AND 3. They weren't wearing makeup AND 4. Got a negative reaction from that person because they weren't wearing makeup.

I think women give themselves a complex thinking that people judge them when they aren't wearing makeup, when the reality is that people are simply reacting to differences. Slowly reduce the amount of makeup you wear over time and no one is going to give a shite when you're only putting on a bit of tinted sunscreen. But if you go from wearing warpaint to nothing overnight, of course people react.

I'm not going to argue it, mine is the same. I also hate sleeping on a sofa.

The older my wife gets, the more she wants to wear makeup. When she was young she looked good without it. She still looks good, but she gets insecure around other women who are all fixed up with hair and makeup. In my opinion though I’ve seen very average looking women look great with a lot of makeup. Still I’d rather less makeup than more on ladies. It’s sort of deceitful.

think about how ridiculous the concept of makeup is, much less the execution. It might be the stupidest ubiquitous activity in the history of human behavior

women…throw your makeup away. Never put it on again for any reason. You look great without it unless you are unfortunately ugly in which case the makeup really isn’t helping

just be you

My wife wears so little that when she does put some on I call her a tramp.

Gotta keep a foot on their neck.

Mine doesn't wear any unless its an important thing like family pictures, or an event. I prefer it like that. It's so rare that she looks funny with makeup on...to me at least.

Similar here. My wife wears just a minimum of makeup. No eye liner, no rosy red cheeks, no thick foundation followed by more makeup.

She does use lipstick and mostly a skin moisturizer instead of makeup. She actually spends more time drying her hair and fixing it than anything else.

I know this isn’t directed at the wives here, but I will add that as a fair skinned natural blonde, makeup is 100% required so I don’t look like ET.

My wife passed away two years ago. She was in the Miss Alabama competition before walking out because of all the gays in the program. I preferred her without makeup. Spent 30 days at Mayo Clinic recovering from a major FU at UAB. Recovering at her Dads lake house. She went to Shelby one morning and was standing with the crowd watching a Porsche Commercial being shot on the Main Street. Two men started watching her and on the spot offered her a seat in the commercial. Wanted a true southern girl in the car. She road with the stunt driver all afternoon. Girl amazed me….proud to have her on my arm…Miss her every day. She was a nurse graduating first in class at Samford. Left nursing and finished on the Executive floor at Alabama Power. Smart as a whip to run around with me. I was the first and last boy to kiss her. Wouldn’t trade that for the world.
