Hey now, I'm of Italian descent and resemble that remark!

At the time the holiday was created, how many of them do you think even knew that Columbus was Italian?

That smells like total bullshite along with most of the estimates of native numbers during those days.
I’ve always thought it curious how Europeans supposedly wiped out all the natives and yet South America and Mexico are chock full of people who aren’t white/black/Asian. Do people think the average Mexican looks like a Spaniard?

The rich in Mexico City do.

Exactly. 200 years from now intentionally misgendering someone will be the equivalent of forible rape.
Maybe in 200 years science will have advanced enough again to figure out there are only 2 genders and pandering to the mentally ill is a bad idea.

Bull shite. Things dont change in the eyes of God. And yes our moral "fiber" derive from God.
Slavery is still happening today around the world, and the left doesnt seem to care about it. Nor do they care about the murders/genocides happening in parts of the muslim world of Christians. All happening when Obama was prez. He didnt give a crap. Talk about blacks being enslaved in this country, and he and the left are the first to jump on the whine-train about how bad we are.
Examples can be brought up all day long of this.
So I guess you don't think MLKJr should be revered or have a holiday due to his adulterous ways? And no you cant move the "moral" line over just cause you want too.

Did you ever see that soap opera about Italian merchants?
It’s called
”As the Dagos Buy”

The Bible actually instructs slaves.

Right. but not the average Mexican, El Salvadoran, or Honduran. They aren’t white. They’re Indians.

Pretty self-explanatory. Do you have a more specific question?

I'm stunned this thread has gone this long without a mention of Les' Columbus Day speech...

I just want to remind everybody that it's Columbus Day, that all those of you that know Italians and like Italians are the people that might venture onto a ship and travel to explore and find new lands: This is your day. So it's not St. Patty's Day. That's a different day entirely.

My point being when you hear Mexico tut-tuting the US about how it treats immigrants, keep in mind the powers that be think even less of said immigrants than people in the US do.
To your average light-skinned predominately Spanish Mexico City urbanite, those mestizos are mongrels.

Who do you think named them Indians?
Correct, he thought he was in India and didn't realize at first, that he reached new land. And since the natives looked similar to people from India, he thought they were Indians. And referred to them as Indians.

I get the point that everyone is making. I just don't agree honestly. I am fully aware of the things that happened in the past. I am fully aware of cultural contexts that allowed for things to happen that we consider vile, and they would consider normal.
I simply choose to not give them a pass on those things. You are free to disagree. As I realize I am the only person with this viewpoint on here.

Slavery anywhere is a terrible terrible thing. But I live in the USA. I can't fight someone's battles of which I am not of close proximity to, or even unaware.

Adultery is wrong. MLK is not the perfect man we made him out to be. I admit that. But this whole thread I've mainly been talking about murder. Murder and adultery cannot be compared at all.

El Faro a Colón , commonly known as Faro Colón, is a Dominican monument and museum built in honor of Christopher Columbus , discoverer of the New World .
I'm not sure if it's already been said in this thread or not, but that monument has a light on it that, when illuminated, can be seen from Puerto Rico. It also cuts out power to half of Santo Domingo when they turn it on...
