As most of us already know, Columbus was a murderous and vindictive tyrant who was sent back to Spain in shackles by his own men. He was known for commiting atrocities such as genocide against the native Americans, hanging his own people for stealing bread, selling 10 year old girls into sexual slavery, etc.

Why is his portrayed in grade school textbooks as some kind of hero? And why does he have his own holiday? This guy was such a douche that an estimated 50,000 native Americans committed suicide because they didn’t want to live under his rule. Why not just tell the truth that he was a tPOS?

I don’t think he’s portrayed as anything but the guy who “found” America.

If it wasn’t for Columbus there would be no America and they would still be called Indians. You have to take the good with the bad.

Did he discover trade routes and new lands that Europe had not been aware of?

Grade school history textbooks teach mythology. Not history.

I don't think we want our children to read truths about most of our so-called folk heroes
