Was in Pine Bluff a year or so ago. The paper mill stinks but I never felt unsafe. Gary is the only city I have seen street walkers since early 80’s Miami.

Detroit is actually pretty nice outside of a few parts. It's really come back. Gary is hell on earth. There were so many abandoned properties that the city offered free houses if you promised to live and keep up the property for 5 years.

New Orleans and not even remotely close

What a statement. NOLA is great, to some extent.

Amarillo, TX and Salina, KS. Bakersfield and Riverside, CA are up there, too

Oooh... yeah, Amarillo is a shithole... almost literally. Bakersfield, Riverside... and don’t forget San Bernardino... are terrible smog, meth and gang ridden depressing places.

Ask any over-the-road trucker about Gary, Indiana. Sheeeeet.

Greenville MS may be the home of Doe's, but it's loaded for bear when it comes to running for the worst town around.

Some of the worst I’ve been in; Baltimore, Little Rock, Trenton NJ, Philadelphia (for the airport alone should make the list), Louisville, Buffalo NY (decent city but the Winter is brutal), Jackson, East Memphis, Orange/Beaumont.

East St Louis is absolutely appalling. Unbelievable such a place even exists in this country.

The south side of Chicago looks nice in comparison

There are a few square blocks of East St. Louis that strongly resemble the "urban prairie" of Detroit. I wouldn't paint the whole city with that brush, though.

Big cities - Newark
Small cities - Shreveport

Newark only has 292,000 people; not sure I’d call that “big.”

One of 3 states that I haven't visited. One day, when I form my shell corporation, I'll have a reason to go to Delaware.

The area of Newark is very small but its not like there are open fields across the city line.

Houston, the worst city in America?

Did you sit in a hotel room all day?
