I said public school was for poors, you said not in England (it kind of is). Then I said are we in England to which you replied that half these books were written by englishman.

I'm not sure what books mostly written between 1600 and 1850 by guys that may or may not have had formal education has today with today's school system.

My English teacher was a massive feminist and every book we read was about a strong female lead (usually a minority) overcoming the patriarchy/some terrible men in her life.

Their Eyes Were Watching God was terribad
Like Water for Chocolate was similar but with Mexicans
Love Medicine was also similar but with Native Americans
Sula, like TEWWG, had strong black female leads

There was literally no diversity of what we read. It was basically feminist literature 101. A miserable fricking 2 years of having that woman.

Good read.

Agreed. I Recently re-read it. It holds up well. Still a great book.

I have always loved to read so I was reading stuff that was required as well as stuff that I liked.

Brave New World and To Kill a Mockingbird were my favorites from the required reading.
The Lord of the Rings was my favorite I read for fun.
Close second was Shogun by James Clavell.
But my list could go on for pages.
