Iliad and The Odyssey. hated them.
I hated every book we read (and I love to read) except Catcher in the Rye was ok. Hated The Scarlet Letter, The Crucible, all Shakespeare.

I actually didn’t mind Their Eyes Were Watching God but I hated the writing style. Our high school read almost exclusively AA culture and colonialism novels so it got boring very quickly.

This combined with the English of the times made it an excruciating read.
God what an awful read. Hawthorne wins hands down. There was another one by him that I also had to read - The House of the Seven Gables.

Faulkner’s “As I lay dying” was just boring and dreadful as a 10th grader. It wasn’t until after I got older, moved out of Louisiana, and understood the book more did I get something out of it.
It’s now probably my favorite book that I was forced to read.
ETA: The awakening is some bullshite and can frick right off. Kate Chopin was a slut.

Pride and Prejudice. OMFG I couldn’t read that for shite! Then I got the cliff notes and I still couldn’t understand WTF was going on. I was so traumatized as to how hard it was to read that every time I read a shitty book or watch a crappy movie I think “That shite was almost as bad as Pride and Prejudice!” No lie.
