Pull ups are so fricking hard. In my jr year of high school I did 9. Couldn’t get to 10. Btw, That was standard by the book pull up...palms facing away, straight up, straight down method, not the swinging crossfit bs.
Now: 0. But the grip required for pull-ups is a bitch.

Probably 30 when I was young but I was skin and bones. Now that I’m in mid 50’s I’d be lucky to get 5

This thread is making me feel better because I thought I sucked bad at them.

I can do 20 on a good day, I’m in my prime.

In Ranger School we had to do 20 before we could eat when we were in the Benning Phase. I and two other guys did them behind the neck just as a "you can't smoke me" display. I could probably do around 35 normal ones at the time with perfect form. I struggle to do 15 with just decent form now but I am almost 30 years past that peak.

I do 25 pull ups and 25 chin ups about 3 days a week. Usually do set of 10, then sets of about 7/8. Focus on form. I try to go completely up and completely down slowly. See too many half assing their way through

Pathetic. How old a baw are you?
In highschool I could probably do 7-8, not sure. Now I could probably do 15+. Last time I did them was about a year ago and I think I hit 12-13. My arms are in much better shape now than a year ago.

This reminded me of a story. One day (around 2012) at a poker home game, an out of shape guy (around 6’240lb, mid 40s and lazy) was bragging how great of an athlete he was in high school. Another player called him out on his bs saying that he couldn’t do 1 pull up if he was given 6 months. A 500 dollar bet was made. The bet was paid a week before the event was suppose to go down.
