You can say that about a lot of cities.

Meh.
You go there for like 3 days at most and not tell anyone about what you did.
No one actually wants to move there and start a life. And if you do you're a psychopath.

tell that to the SWA pilots based there, making a killing, and they'll laugh in your face...Vegas is what you make of it

Tampa. It's not even the most vibrant city in Tampa Bay.
I honestly never knew the actual name of the city was Tampa. I thought that was a nickname and the city was called Tampa Bay.

All cities have their high points and low points. When I travel I mostly look forward to eating local so there's always something for me to be happy about.

Oddly enough the two times I've been there were some great times.
My "Pug Named Parker" story hails from Seattle.
The city is not bad. It's just I don't get the ball-lapping it gets. Big city is big city.
The geographics of Seattle and surrounding area is fricking awesome. The people there are rather bleh as is the general city "scene".

Not true.. Las Vegas is actually a very cool city to live in and the people that do move there, really like it and don't leave.

New York
There's so much to New York City that people from there and lived there all their lives don't grasp, it's even more impossible for an outsider to comprehend. To say New York is over-rated is just completely ignorant. YOU may not like it, but it's still nonetheless incredible and overwhelming to anyone with the most basic level of intelligence and exposure.

I've read many comments about LA being vastly overrated. Having lived in Southern California for 7 years while in the Air Force, the biggest pitfall of the LA Basin is traffic and the cost of living. That being said, there are a lot of things that make the LA area a not so bad place. You have the beaches, places like Venice Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, hiking in the Hollywood Hills, Runyon Canyon, etc., the Angeles National Forest, San Gabriel and Santa Monica Mountains.
this topic comes up once a year, and i've said it before and i'll say it again....
LA, due to the diversity mentioned above, is a fantastic place to live. There's so much to do to stay busy; beaches, hiking, entertainment, sports, etc. It's not like New York City where it's a giant concrete metropolis. You can hike mountain ranges smack dab in the middle of the city. And our weather is great.
that said, i totally understand why visitors/outsiders dont like LA, or say it's overrated. They visit hollywood, which is a complete shithole. Our culture isn't up to par with a NYC or SF. Our nightlife can't touch Miami or Vegas. With the exception of ethnic cuisine, there isn't one thing that LA truly excels at that will stand out to visitors.

Salt Lake City sucks big time.
I visited there and Provo once. Really enjoyed the trip.
Milwaukee was another place I enjoyed, in spite of not being viewed as a great tourist destination.

I think the health/fitness industry certainly stands out to visitors.. and I love LA. Hollywood, Sunset Strip.. not so much.

I haven’t been out West, but I would say New Orleans hands down.

i love Vegas (to visit), and i agree with your take on New York, but i gotta disagree here.
People move to vegas because it's cheap, and it's easy to get a job in the service industry. There are nicer parts, such as Summerlin and Henderson, but generally speaking, Vegas is poor, and drug/alcohol use is pervasive.

but visitors don't come to LA to tour our gyms and yoga studios. At most, they'll check out muscle beach while visiting Venice.
But, for a resident, the infinite and diverse health/fitness options available strengthen my argument that LA is a great place to live.
