Philly absolutely sucks gritty balls. Been three times for educational purposes and was miserable each time. Anyone with a southern accent has no business in Philadelphia.

This. Philadelphia is an ugly concrete jungle.

San Fran, San Diego are awesome. There's nothing quite like them and the climate is perfect. Other than the retarded celebrities infesting California, it's my favorite state and it's not close.

Depends.
A city to live in or a city to visit on vacation? I love to visit New York and Boston, but would never consider living in either place.
A good place to live is somewhere that probably doesn't rate high among the "cool people" but is stable, functions well, economically productive, and family friendly.

Example: New Orleans is a great place to visit for vacations, events, City Park excursions, museums, zoo, etc, but if you live in Orleans Parish with children, you may as well just be throwing them in quicksand.

Chicago is overrated. It's considered the murder capital of the US, but when you look at murder rates per capita, it's only 25th

I concur. I spent several months there on a project and didn't care for the place or the people at all.

Dallas is a fine place to live and there is a lot going for it

But unlike others mentioned, it deserves to be on the list because Dallas people think people in NYC/London/Paris/Dubai are jealous of life in Dallas.

If I had to pick, I'd probably say Denver.

And not because I think Denver is a bad place, I actually really like it. But it gets hyped up to the point where reality just can't keep up. So by definition, I'd say it's overrated.

Would still live there in a heartbeat though.

That's a lot of places in this thread

I don't dislike Austin or Nashville, but neither really live up to the hype for me (particularly Nashville).

I lived in Denver for a couple of years and loved it. Loved that it was so bike friendly, skiing in the winter, hiking and mountain climbing in the summer.

The home prices are inflated compared to the wages I'm seeing.

Ive always wondered what the mechanism for this is. Are people accumulating debt to live in high priced houses and apartments only to move out when they cant afford it anymore and be replaced with more debt accumulators?

Boulder is this and more so. And yes, I've lived there. I liked it OK but there are plenty of places I'd rather live.

I’ve never had a bad time in Chicago. I’ve only been in the summer so that helps but still it’s a great town and like most cities it is really easy to avoid getting shot.

Brings me to the most underrated town; Milwaukee

I'm not a fan of Philly. It sucks.

But don't people outside of Philly actually know that it sucks?

Massive college town so that drives up rent, young professional town and they are just in past few years building for the size of the population.

Then you also just have a ton of river oaks/highland park millennials that go to Austin to retire.
