Should come to the UWS where it’s better

NYC is sold on being the city that never sleeps and that there are all kinds of opportunities for entertainment and culture there a short distance away.
Granted, Manhattan is what a lot of people think of, mainly dealing with Broadway plays.
Downside is that rent is insane for the amount of square footage you get or you have to live in Jersey or Connecticut. It’s also car-unfriendly to say the least so get used to walking or taking trains, busses, subway, taxi, etc.
LA? Mainly sold on the climate, beaches, etc. Lots of the same opportunities for entertainment and culture as NYC though the stage isn’t as prominent there as Broadway.
It’s also a driving area though the traffic is hellacious to say the least. And rents are as high or higher than NYC, as the goddamn Friday house in the ghetto is worth $1m solely because of the land it sits on.
Huge cities like this are nice places to visit but aren’t great places to live unless you have no kids and/or are making huge money. “Middle class” LA living costs more than baller living almost anywhere between the coasts except Chicago.
I like the idea of being able to spend less than high six figures to buy a house that isn’t a teardown for a huge rebuild to maximize use of the lot.

I lived in a broom closet in Kew Gardens for a year. I had a f'ing blast. NYC is insanely expensive, and I had a great job, but felt poor.
LA never held that much of an attraction, it's pretentious and full of itself. Been to Bourbon St? Youve been to the Strip.

Lots of dumb people live in those cities and think they’re great. Same as BR and NOLA. The difference is there are millions more in NYC and LA, and all the media is centralized there, so everyone gets to hear about how great they think they are

NYC is awesome. Tons to do, can find an amazing amount of foods from essentially any culture imaginable.

it's all about what you like...I could never imagine living in an apartment in a crammed city like NYC..I also could never imagine living in the middle of nowhere..but there are people who love those extremes.

Never been to NYC but been to LA a few times. Nothing but an over priced rat race. Always good to come home.

I hate NYC. I like LA and thought about moving there. But after traveling to Europe, I realized LA is nothing in comparison and the high cost of living doesn't justify living there.

visited last year for a week to see my now ex. One day, she was completely busy, so I took the subway from Brooklyn in to Manhattan to explore for the morning/afternoon. I swear to God, walking from Battery Park up to Central, I saw more people with my own eyes than live in the entire state of Alabama. Social overload. I'm so used to acknowledging and greeting everyone I have eye contact with, and seeing hundreds of people pass by every minute made me feel crazy.
I had the exact opposite experience. I walked from 44th street to the WTC and was wondering where all the fricking people were until I got within a half mile of the financial district. But I didn’t walk down broadway so that may have played a role

I initially walked down 2nd through Greenwich and hopped over to either 6th or 7th to go through TS. Definitely a shitton more people that way, even when not directly in the square.
ETA: Financial district was cool. Got a picture with that old house (birthplace of the first American saint) with all the towers around, and of course a shite-eating grin in front of the Trump Building.
