What’s so great about living in Los Angeles or NYC?

I saw comedian Bill Burr in person last night ramble on living in both cities and thinks they’re overrated by becoming hipster havens. What is your opinion on both places

Never been to LA but NYC smells like piss and is way too expensive.

There's a lot of glitz and glamour.
Not my thing but some people like it.

I lived in NYC for a year. It was fun in my mid 20s. Felt like I was living in the center of the universe. 40 year old fallguy would have to have Donald Trump money to move back with a wife and a kid.

I like visiting NYC, but I could never live there. Too many people and buildings.
LA sucks balls. Traffic alone would make me commit suicide.

Well.. For one, both are the top two media capitals in the country. So if you want a prime time job in the media, that might appeal to someone.
For many, they live there because it's home.
Each city does offer things that you can only experience there, which isn't a reason to move there, but the populations of each city alone, makes it appealing for many businesses.
You can ask this question for just about anywhere people live.

Both are fun to visit, but overcrowded and would never live in either

Los Angeles proper sucks but you don’t go to SoCal to just go to LA.
You go for Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Malibu, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Anaheim, etc...

If you don't count the insanely high cost of living in both places, then I could happily live in either one.

The great thing about cities like NYC and Los Angeles is that it keeps those kind of people away from me.

Not living in Louisiana

The one reason would be if you were a young man: the endless supply of poontang in either town...especially with the dating apps this days.

Great to visit, couldn't live there though.
ps - LA means "Socal area" to me not "downtown" LA

Man, this posits a tough hypothetical. Would I rather live in Baton Rouge or NYC? Lake Charles or LA? Shreveport or Chicago?
I'm not joking when I say it's actually a difficult thought exercise.

Never lived in NY so can’t comment.
But I did live in the LA area for 3 years and absolutely loved it.
Does it have problems? sure. But the pros so far outweighed the cons.
If he right opportunity came, I’d head back to SoCal in a heartbeat.
