Contact tracing at this point is useless, anyway. It is just a way for states to spend some of the federal money they are getting and the companies that run the contact tracing are probably getting paid well for something that is really going to have little impact.

Yes, and I’d bet the companies doing the contact tracing just happen to be friends of the politician in charge.

For a while, this was supposed to be the silver bullet to solve the pandemic. It was never realistic and is not working anywhere. It is a well established strategy that works for things like AIDS and STDs. Not so much for a virus that spreads like the common cold.

They are actively tracking all of us thru our cell phones. The other methods of "contact tracing" are just to throw you off the scent and let you feel like you still have some control of your own privacy.

Not surprising. I worked for an insurance company in college where my job was to call people whose policies had lapsed due to nonpayment and easily 70% of the people never answered.

Not many people answer calls they don't know.

"The call is private and will not be shared with other people."

This, coming from the same government who somehow managed to fall for a Nigerian money scam and sent 100s of millions of dollars in legit unemployment checks to them?

I am curious about what time frame they ask the positive person about
My neighbor has it, she was at my house the week before she tested positive
I heard about it from another neighbor

We have hundreds of people on the phones all day calling people who are trying to hide from them.

I knew contact tracing was bullshite when I saw state health departments on twitter soliciting applicants for the contact tracer jobs.

In reality, Betty is gonna have to take time out from counting customers and checking receipts at Walmart to take down folk's information. Betty is the weak link.

Yeah, everyone did. There were backend updates pushed to Android and iOS devices for this. It only works if you end up installing a participating app, in theory.

It worked phenomenally well in S. Korea. Even though they were hit early they still managed to keep cases to less then 4% of what the US has had per capita*. They already had the system up and running before COVID 19 which along with their more compliment population gave them a big edge. They were able to keep deaths to 6 per million population where the US is at 394 per million. While their are certainly other factors in the death toll like overall health of the population they have been a testament to how to deal with it.

* even factoring in S. Koreas lower tests per million their positive rate is still ~13% of the US per capita positives.

I don't know enough about South Korea to speak to that, but it has been a universal fail here in the US. Not surprising given how this thing spreads. And when you hear that contact tracers are being instructed not to ask about participation in protests, you just have to shake your head and laugh.
