Whatever happened to Quaaludes?

they were all the rage back in the 70s and 80s but they haven't really been mentioned in quite a while. Am I to assume they aren't being manufactured any longer? I did a quick google search and they appear to still be popular in South Africa so someone must still be making them.
And no, I'm not looking for a Quaalude guy. Wolf of wall street prompted this topic.

There are probably better disco biscuits now, maybe less side-effects?

Jordan Belfort cleaned out the whole northeast, apparently.

Research Karen Ann Quinlan. Famous case in the 1970's of quaaludes and alcohol mixing.

They stopped producing them. In South Africa, the government used it as a method to suppress the population so there are still remnants floating around. South African quaaludes are a little different than the originals.

It was just a barbiturates, right? They still make xanex, they just call it something different every few years. In the nineties it was Valium. Probably has something to do with patents.
But if you really wanna black out just drink whiskey and huff paint.

I was born in the wrong decade. Should have grown up in the 70s taking quaaludes and jamming Steve Miller.

Lol. It was a strong as frick tranquilizer. Quaaludes would frick you up beyond all recognition.

Not really no. But I find valium and xanex indistinguishable. And I've never had the pleasure of a quaalude.
Well google says it's not a barbitarute, it's a "quinazolinone", whatever the frick that is. So my point was dumb and I've wasted everyone's time. Sorry.

They were banned in the US in the early 80’s.
People still got them in Mexico for awhile. But I believe they are banned there too.
