Valium

I had a blue one two weeks back before having a procedure on my leg. In the early 80's, some of my NLU buddies from Little Rock had boxes of white, yellow and blue ones. Someone they knew broke into a drug warehouse. At least three of the guys I knew had multiple bottle of them. We came close to taking one guy to the hospital after a Rush concert.

I didn't take any of them then. I was doing whatever uppers O could find.

Weren't quaaludes originally horse tranquilizers?

In all seriousness, they're very limited these days. Hamilton's Pharmacopeia on Vice had an entire episode about it.

First off

Xanax is not a barbiturate

Xanax is a benzodiazepine. It is the same family as Valium, Librium, Versed.

Second off

Ecstasy is not Molly. Molly is a term reserved for pure MDMA. Ecstasy is a blend of what SHOULD be mostly MDMA but usually has methamphetamines and other uppers mixed in. Some times people buy "Molly" and get ecstasy. And don't really know or understand. Produce similar feelings but a little different.

Third off

OP I have always wondered the same thing. Wolf of Wall Street makes these drugs seem so popular. And the. Poof. Gone. Nobody in the WORLD even produces them. And nobody knows what it feels like.

If I HAD to guess my best bet would be like it feels like taking an Ambien and fighting the urge to go to sleep and staying up. I've taken Ambien for various stints in my life and was easily able to stay awake on it. You feel relaxed, detached, like you're watching a movie of things in front of you. And nothing bothers you. Although you forget a lot of stuff. Hats my bet.

I saw my first and last one in 1988. Got it from a buddy in New Orleans whose father had a huge stash from the early 80's. I was told they were not as strong as they were fresh but apparently that didn't matter because I remember nothing from an hour after I took it at around 10pm till waking up naked in the back of my Blazer at 11AM in a French Quarter pay parking lot with a strange girl that I had never seen in my life. I was later told the nights events from a friend and I wish like hell I had some memory of it because it sounded like a great time!

In the late 70s I had a prescription for 40 pills a month. The cost was $9.80 for 40 fresh Lude’s. Legal !

I'm pretty sure both the yellow and blue ones were gobbled by the handful in the 70's. ...in fact I positive they were. hahaha. Ludes....Another 70's beast altogether ...the Rorer 714's were all the rage when available but if not you had the Mexican imposters. "Allegedly"

Interesting perspective ... here's mine:
Long before I ever heard of anything called Molly, there was Ecstasy or X. In its original form, around '82 or '83, it was MDA. When MDA was made illegal, MDMA was developed (maybe '84ish) to replace it and was soon also illegal. In my experience, MDA/MDMA was the best drug ever. You were a very happy camper, not overly aggressive and saved a fortune on beer. One beer or twenty, it didn't matter because "X rules".

Problems began probably around '86 or '87 when all kind of shite was being sold as X. You never knew what you were going to get. By about '88, it was nothing like the original X. No of the smooth happy highs of the MDA/MDMA era. This new shite caused hallucinations, blackouts and general stupidity. Instead of a little capsule full of powder, the "new" X was pressed pills. The "Green X" were crazy pills. I'm sure they were mostly acid mixed with some kind of speed/meth. It Definitely wasn't the MDMA of five or six years earlier. That was enough for me.

The first time I recall hearing about Molly was around 2002 or 2003. I never tried it, but assumed it was just the latest iteration of whatever mix of stimulants had the best profit margin and was rebranded as Molly. God knows a kid can't be cool if he's taking the same shite some old guy from the 80s was.

So, in summation, I don't know what's what anymore. But in 1984, Ecstacy was pure (near pure) MDMA. Molly was the Irish chick Danny Noonan was banging in Caddyshack.
